So you are saying max out your credit cards and HELOC buying bitcoin and then default like a mofo when you stash enough offshore to retire?

Ha!

No...I am saying after 2 pages, so far only a few guys are talking about massive incomes and 2-3 years worth of bills saved in cash (LOL).

I expected more SVTP, come on!

OK, I’m debt free and make a ton. I could retire now, but won’t with the money I make. 100% commission.
Happy?

I'm working myself to death so I know you're not talking about me gimmie11s. I make good money, I do not make great money. I sure as hell wish I could retire and enjoy some life before I give up the ghost.

I hear ya 03cobra#69 but if you have the means make sure you enjoy life.

I was reading that dave ramsey book about money and he says 70% of people 65 and older can't write a check on spot for $700. Not sold on that statement. Some of the best money advice i ever read was on this site. I mean i think i do fairly well for not having a degree amd what i do.

I have a high school education.
Here’s the deal I always told my kids. You can get a high dollar job and hate it, but take a lower pay job that you love. Y’all will advance from there. It may not always work out, but y’all need to enjoy going to work and not dread it. I have 3 very successful kids that I’m extremely proud of. I’d like to think we had something to do with that. Never pushed any of them into college or anything.

They have been pushing college for decades on kids so there has been a shift of good paying jobs regarding having a degree or not. They use to always say if you wanted to be someone and make good money go to college. Hell making money off college kids is an actual career field these days. I finished my AA before I retired and my BS is 3/4ths but I make more money being a Set-Up Mechanic than the career field I was in school for. There is a huge shortage now for Set-Ups here and it shows in my hours. In my opinion not having a degree doesn't play a factor in today's world as much as it use to.

Imagine if everyone paid 10% and I think that should still be high.
Absolutely, im a huge advocate for free market, less government and personal accountability. I dgaf who makes bad life choices, I have zero interest in paying for that.

Most of our income tax $$ goes to our healthcare and id assume most of yours goes to military so... I have to thank America for making North America what it is. Canada would be even less without you and I appreciate that while im sure you see us as a freeloading tit... Which is true.. Ha

In earlier posts, I see some people mention not paying into ss... how so? To be completely brutally honest, I don’t expect to live long enough to be eligible to apply, lol.... besides. I’m stubborn and refuse to ask anyone for anything, especially the goobermint

When its a a slow week, my pimp hand comes out strong and when my hoes are having a good week. I reward with a little easier on it. Typically my hoes consistently bring in the coin

LOL! nice

I think that if I was alive in the 30's when that communist Democrat FDR started Social Security, I would have been hopping mad.

I also agree that a college education is far overrated in the real world; being eager and willing to work is the most important factor for success.

I used to roll with the good times, but after Obama, I'm much more cautious about my disposable spending. If Trump wins, I'm getting that new Ram TRX when it comes out. If Trump looses, people are getting fired at the first sign of downturn.

Over the last 10 years I've either been 100% commission or salary plus commission. Surprisingly I prefer 100% commission as my percentages are higher and my pay tends to be higher.

My pay varies by work load, so typically I make more in the summer than the winter, I try to budget on my winter numbers and the extra summer pay is put into savings.

My observation is you have to educate your spouse more than yourself on the need to exhibit judgment. Especially if they are a homemaker. They don’t realize how variable an income can be. Have several years in a row of smashing success and they feel it is a guarantee. And as a result they can spend money like it is a guarantee. I have been fortunate to not be in a bad spot but i have seen others that made big coin and their spouse spent more than they made.

Next thing you know you’re in the fancy people furniture store and the sales people are trying to normalize spending 25k to furnish a living room. They try to sell the female hard and it’s so obvious, agreeing with all of her input lol. I pace awkwardly about 30 feet away doing the math on how many shares of Microsoft or whatever I could buy instead of a $5000 couch.

The lifestyle creep is the real deal and the ultimate enemy.

My Spouse is part of the reason we live the way we do. I pay the mortgage and she pays ALL the utilities. We are an excellent team in that department. She has her own bank account and I have mine. I have no say so over what she does nor does she me. Although she says I buy too many toys. I don't think I would have married a stay at home woman. Her desire to excel in life is part of the reason I fell for her. That and I like toys. ;)

If youre new to it, be as frugal as you can until you get into the swing of things.

I literally put off putting solar on my house this year though because I was concerned my checks would start to dwindle. Just make sure you save and try to spend less than your lowest months. I've gone way over before, but I have a rather healthy savings that will allow us to continue.
