For the last year, I've been slowly rebuilding my old race bike from the ground up.

Some short backstory - My dad helped me buy this thing brand new back in 2005 at the ripe age of 14. I was definitely the youngest kid rocking a 250 2-stroke at the time - luckily I had grown up riding quads and bikes and my parents were confident that I could handle it.

From there, I built and raced the bike for about 6 years before selling it while away at college.
Last summer, I found it for sale largely unchanged from my ownership but totally neglected. I regretted selling this bike essentially from day 1, so needless to say I had to have it.

Here are some official "completed" photos as well as a video from the first day I really opened up the motor, all thanks to the infamous @mooch29.

He really did - I'm sure he is going to be creating some awesome stuff in the future.

Riding wise, I have a ton of cobwebs to dust off haha. This place was really just loose gravel roads, great for opening up the bike but nothing too technical. Looking forward to getting back out on a track though!

Awesome bike. Keep it forever now.

The graphics install makes my palms sweaty lol. Nothing like agonizing over every detail of your new graphics look only to swear they aren’t cut correctly to fit the plastics even though they are. I think applying dry with a little heat is the way. Wet the plastics too much and the bubbles are bad.

Those were the days, I raced in New Zealand then the UK between about 86 and 93 - a great life and a great hobby.

Totally tired joints now though - bad back, bad hip, broken and badly set bones. Do it all again though...

People love the 2001’s! Good for you man, they don’t need many mods to be a handful!

Thanks brother! 2 strokes are still the best in my opinion, haha

Sorry to hear about the injuries! I was lucky enough to never have any serious injuries... regardless, I will be taking it a bit easier than I used to as a kid! It’s a great hobby for sure, very grateful that my parents allowed me to get involved (and helped fund it!) growing up.

Great story, video and pics! Very cool!
Appreciate it!!
