2010 Raptor

I've been a member of the forum for a long time because I did own a 2003 Cobra for a little while. I now have the opportunity to purchase a 2010 Raptor from a close friend who has owned it since new with about 110k miles on it for 17k. No accidents still very clean but probably needs tires. I know he did have the differential replaced under his Ford extended warranty and I will ask about anything else. Looking at prices online it seems like a very good price but prices are crazy high for everything used right now. Any known issues at that mileage or things to look for? Is it worth it? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Carmen

1. Has it seen salt? If so, check the rockers and cab corners.

The price to replace the rockers can start around 2-3k per side and can blow up tremendously if the rust is found higher up.
If it has a sunroof, the rear drain for the sunroof lands around the cab corners, so yea.

2. 6.2L+6R100 is just getting broken in at that mileage. Unless he never changed the oil or used olive oil, it's rare to see issues with the 6.2L. Most common rare one is the valve springs. But, like I said, it's rare to happen.

3. If he hasn't done it, plugs are due, along with other fluids for changing. Coolant, diffs, transfer, etc...

4. Maybe rotors may be up for replacement.

5. The 2010's have a different power steering pump and something else... Can't remember what it is though. The PSP is a bastard to find if you fry yours, from what I've read on forums. So, no donuts.

Edit: 5.4L or 6.2L in the truck?

5.4L isn't god awful, but it's slow, especially since it's a bit underpowered for 35"s.

Yeah sounds like a good deal. Nice that it's your friend and you're not buying from a random dealer.

Also, shocks may be up for servicing if your friend hasn't done it recently. If he's never swapped them, they are way past due. Fox recommends 50k max for even street driving.

New ones are around 300 each on Rockauto, if in stock. You can get rebuilt ones, from Texas Shock Works and others without any down time as they send you rebuilt ones right away and you send in your old ones. Deposit required iirc.

Yes it is, we've been friends for more than 40 years. This is kind of an odd situation that came up. In 2010 he purchased the Raptor and one of his coworkers did the same and I bought an Challenger SRT8. My buddy purchased the other Raptor from his coworker that had only about 10k miles so this is available. He would also be interested in a trade for my SRT8 with some cash going his way. I am trying to decide what to do.

No rust, do it. Thats easily worth $25K+ with the 6.2 even with the mileage. Do Fuse 27 ASAP and probably needs shocks rebuilt

$25k for the extended cab? I think the crew was 11 first year.
I actually didn't realize they didnt make a SCrew in 2010 but SCrew/SCab values really aren't that different if it has the 6.2. I just ran Blue Book and its $23K+

Im seeing 2014s with 150K miles selling in the high $20Ks. You find one under 50K miles and its $40K or more.

The majority of time Raptors sell for under $25K is because they were Border Patrol issued with cloth seats. A 1 owner Raptor with 110K miles thats not BP and no rusty rockers is a downright steal at $17K

The first year or two was extended cab only with the 5.4

when they added the supercrew, that got the 6.2, but the extended cab still got the 5.4

i think a year after that they dropped the 5.4 and made the 6.2 standard on all cab lengths.

This is incorrect. At launch the 5.4 was the only one available though both the 5.4 and 6.2 could be ordered for 2010my. The 6.2 in the extended cab 2010 was available a month or two after launch.
I believe the Crew launched in 2011 with the 6.2 as the only option for both crew and ext cabs.

I was mistaken it’s the 5.4 not the 6.2. Looked at it today, no rust in the rockers a few dings, no odd noises and everything seems to work fine, just needs a good detailing. Still a good deal with the 5.4? Anything to be concerned about with the 5.4 vs the 6.2? It was always maintained at the dealer.

Thanks for any input

Eh. Its an engine that will struggle everywhere.

I would say keep looking unless you like the truck.
