I currently have an mmr800 short block with about 46k miles on it but I want to be prepared for the future and buy a new rotating assembly from mmr or modular head shop. Anyone rebuilt their 2v here and what did it cost for labor? I would just like to know so I can put some money aside for the future. Any ideas also help, thanks

Labor is dependent on what u have done.
Are u dropping the block off and having them do the block and cylinder heads or just the block. What portions are you doing?
What is ur goal
Any adders u want to install

I would be dropping the block off for them to put the new rotating assembly in, heads probably need a resurface, as well as a new timing set. its going to be capable of around 1000. Nothing else I want to install other than those listed so it shouldn't be be too difficult for them

Then I can see somewhere in the 2k max range.
Having all this done in a 2v and no adder are u going NA

I already have a procharger on the car and has been on the car for around 30k miles and will be going back on the fresh engine so I can feel safe making more power

I already have cms stage 2.5 blower cams and patriot stage 2 heads with only around 40k on them so I dont think I need to rebuild the heads yet but not a bad idea. Thanks for the advise on things tho, 2k sounds very reasonable for the work

Unless you have spun a bearing or broken something there is no need for a new rotating assembly (other than maybe pistons). Not familiar with the MMR 800 set-up but if it already has a forged crank, rods, and pistons with a standard bore block then my rebuild would be:
  • New crank and rod bearings
  • Bore the current block .010" over what it is currently at (up to 0.030" over)
  • New Pistons for the new bore
  • New Piston rings for the overbore
  • Resurface heads
  • New head gaskets
  • Billet chain tensioner arms

the current setup has Manley pistons/rods and the previous owner went with a cobra crank. its at stock bore and I'm still not convinced on why the extra bore would be worth it. But you may be right about a minimal rebuild. Maybe just rod and piston combo with new bearings, rings, head gaskets and timing set couldn't hurt as well. resurfacing the heads are also a good idea and also maybe a crankshaft re balance

Are MMR shortblocks known for only lasting 50-60k?
I’ve heard good things about mmr so the engine could last a good while before anything happens to it. But if it does spin a bearing or something I just want to be prepared so my car has as little down time as possible. A motor that can withstand 800hp should last a while but I’m going to be turning it up to about 650hp so I don’t know the components with almost 50k miles are gonna like that
