I dynoed the new engine last week. With Scott Hasty Tuning, it made 1101 rwhp and 839 rwtq at 20.9lbs of boost from the VMP Performance, Gen 3R.

It's very tame, due to the stock converter. Throttle response is razor sharp. Driveabilty with Scott's tune is a-ma-zing. This big throttle body drives/responds like a stock, twin 60mm GT500 unit.

I was honestly hoping for 1000 - 1050 tops, as I've never seen a build like this without aftermarket cams. They are said to add around 100 rwhp in a combo like this.

Engine combination basics:
Gen 3, 5.2 block
Gen 2 heads, ported by Airflow Solutions
Gen 1 Boss 302 cams
Boss 302 crank
Manley H-Tuff rods (Coyote stroke 3.63")
Manley Platinum Series Extreme Duty pistons
11.3:1
JLT Super Big Air
VMP Performance 163R throttle body
Ported lower intake
VMP Gen 3R (Not Secret Sauce)
VMP Performance 8 rib belt drive
63mm / +5% overdrive pulleys
1-7/8" headers
3" X pipe
3" Vibrant Super Quiet resonators
2.75" Borla over axles
2.75" Kooks axle back
ID1300 injectors
Fore triple pump hat (274's)
-8/-6 lines
Ignite Red Fuel
6R80 transmission
Stock converter

Sorry, I was in the passenger seat, watching a/f ratio in real time (ready to waive off the dyno operator if needed) and videoing my boost gauge.

It's boring anyhow, it just sits there, spins the rear wheels and goes "weeee".

Congrats John! Id love to have a setup like yours one day. Care to share rough numbers on the build cost?
Around $13.5k, starting from scratch in regards to the engine. I sold my Aluminator for $5k, then sold some extra parts for around $2.5k and that certainly helped offset the cost. I also saved a budgeted amount for quite a while and bam, cash flowed it.

Awesome build!

Is it typical to lock out the cams on a combination like this?

Do you have any sense for how well the resonators are reducing the exhaust noise?

Again so cool! Makes me want to upgrade to a gen3 head. I know you street drive quite a bit and so do I, do you have the vmp triple heat exchanger and do you have fans on it?

Not typical at all. I only seem to see the most aggressive combos locking them out.

I have oil squirters too. We went with them since I drive it so much.

The difference those Super Quiet resonators make is pretty dramatic. It kills the rasp, deepens the tone and reduces overall noise by quite a bit. My car is really quiet.

Hey Shifty. No, I run a Roush heat exchanger and no fans. I don't beat on it mercilessly, so that helps. But honestly, ever since it's had 800+ at the tire, you don't have to, to have alot of fun, imo.

Yeah I’m sure even at part throttle it sets you back in the seat pretty good. I need to do a fuel system so I can go e85 and drop pulley size. 800rwhp is my end goal.

I bet that thing feels amazing with a stock converter. Looking forward to some track times..
Any chance you have a picture of the underside of the car showing the resonator locations?

Looking for 8.50s or better at the track?
Going 1/8th mile now, due to a lack of safety equipment. I don't make many passes, but do plan on hammering out the 60' and then making a few 1/8th mile passes. I'm thinking/hoping the equivalent of 8.40's or quicker. So maybe 5.30's-40's with a 60' in the 1.2's.
