Any of you guys have experience with one? Everyone says they are durable and I'm seeing a ton with 200k miles on the road.

Fx4 level2 is factory but was 2002-2007 which had the Sohc 4.0.

The OHV Rangers are dead reliable if you find one that was taken care of. Only real issue is the slave cylinders on the m5od and I've heard of some sticky transfer cases. They are getting old now and a prime choice for new drivers so clean ones are starting to get hard to find for sale

cool. I'm looking at some things forums and looks like 97-00 heads on a 90-96 is a popular mod, an additional point of compression...with a tune should net 20ish hp

No sir . 1st clutch at 300k miles , rebuilt the front suspension twice. Replaced 1 U joint, several sets of brakes and tires .
. I use Valvoline oil , and a ford filter .
I ditched the ford hubs for warn, and rolled on 32x12.50x15 with a 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive front spring mount , which gave it a leveled stance , and clearance it needed .
I drive 20-25k miles a year , through all kinds of terrain here in Oregon , and that truck was rock solid dependable .

A friend and I did nearly the same thing to a 91 Explorer Sport. I think we used early F150 spring perches though? Added a lift shackle in the rear and the thing got about 2" of lift front/rear which was just nuts for the $50 worth of parts were installed. Shocks were a bit of a pain to find but IIRC Skyjacker had a set for like $200 that worked well up to 3-4" of lift that just bolted in. Threw some 31" General Grabber A/T tires on it, swapped the trac-lok for a budget locker and the thing was near unstoppable in the muck. Had absolutely terrible steering but that was kind of expected. Would wander from lane to lane if you didnt watch it. It did go places my 3" lifted Grand Cherokee ZJ couldnt go and was way better on gas.

I'll vouch for the 4.0 ohv being reliable; mine went 435k with only headgaskets done at 100k. The 4 speed auto attached to it not so much, as the truck had two Ford remanned units in it before I was rearended and it was totalled. Would still be driving it today, most likely.

That said, the 4.0 sohc that replaced it is smooth and has a bit more power, but the timing chain guides really make it one to avoid. The engine has to be pulled to replace the one on the passenger's side and there isn't an upgraded version that addresses their failure points. It has gone 300k in my case, so I guess I can't ask too much more from it, but most haven't been so lucky.

4.0 ohv is definitely reliable, but they often had issues with heads cracking between the valve seats. I replaced my heads with better castings and problem solved. The rocker arms can become worn, the pushrods are not hollow so that is kind of a crappy design. Cam phaser is a pain in the ass to replace.
Also put on warn manual hubs. I dropped the beams out and replaced every bushing, bearing and seal, new u joints. Ranger station and explorer forum have good info on these
