What brand motor oil would be recommended for my 01 Cobra? It has 96k miles on it...just bought it back in mid-July and have only been driving it on the nice weekends and other nice days here and there. I try to check the oil every weekend and the oil is very clean. Just would like the advice of the more longer term Cobra owners of what brand would be recommended.

6qts of 5w30 in any brand you want to run. If you feel really sporty, I like running Amsoil AME in everything.

Literally any rated oil is fine.

People over at BITOG are currently wetting their panties over walmart synth supertech oil. The keystone labs analysis show great results.

Just pick a 5W-30 oil that makes you feel proud and run it.

I've ran that in the past. Someone with much more patience than me did the research and found it was a good oil. Only issue is I hate going into Walmart.

I will say I'm currently running 5w-30 Amsoil and probably have about 2000 miles on this oil change. I already had to top it off. I don't remember having to do it so soon with Motorcraft.

I doubt your having to top off sooner than usual is because you're using Amsoil.

Maybe. Maybe not. I did add the Whipple before my last oil change. But I'm not driving it any harder than I was before. If anything I'm not driving it as hard because of the tuning.

I'm not saying good or bad, just giving my experience.

Ive read so many threads here and post on other forums and the internet about amount of oil to put into our 4.6 dohc , from--6 quarts, 6 1/2 quarts or 7 quarts and the debate has gone on for years . has there been any definitive conclusion what it should be. Some say the heads retain so much oil that you need to run 7 quarts others say you will hurt the engine with that much. I guess 6.5 would be the best answer? so what is it? And yes I know our dip sticks are not accurate.

Back when I first got into 4V engines (2005ish) this was a big topic. Quite a few people on this board spun bearings. The common thread was running 6qts of oil. Someone did a video back then using clear valve covers and it showed how much oil is in the heads. The chains cause issues as well. It might've been Sean Hyland. I honestly don't remember. I believe the 03+ heads have better drain characteristics, but I'm not about to find out personally.

Its not that hard to put in an extra quart and see where it lands on the dipstick. Plus it takes about 9 quarts to fill the pan to the rail. And this being a deep skirt block the oil is still a decent distance from the crank.

Anyway, that's my experience.
