So I’m headed tomorrow to get the new to me Cobra and my insurance was all set and cheap. Adjuster asked about modifications and I didn’t wanna come clean but she’s telling me you have a obligation to disclose modifications that increase HP by more than 50. The policy jumps by another 600 per year.

She said in the event of a loss the adjuster can deny claim if vehicle is modified. Anyone run into this. Any insurance people on here to answer this.

obviously I don’t wanna be very upfront just worried about a claim down the road that they look at car and say no due to the mods.

thanks.

I have never heard of an insurance company asking that unless ur requesting more coverage and pay out. How would they know how much HP it has? I would find a new Car insurance company.

Are they gonna dyno it if u get into an accident? Pretty simple bro..... "I just bought the car I have no idea how much HP it makes im not a car mechanic? That would be my answer!

What are they gonna see thats modified anyway? If it was a NA car then yea a Big ole Turbo or Blower would be a clue..... but absent that they will have absolutely no clue how much HP it makes and u revealing that will only result in higher monthly fees.

Are they gonna pull injectors and fuel pumps to see if they are stock? No.

Look into Collector/Classic car Insurance. Grundy or Hagerty are the two most popular with the people I know. I've had Grundy for years now and couldn't be happier. Low rate, agreed value with no BS. Take your time, do your homework and save some money with no aggravation.

Was this for an "Agreed Upon Value" policy?

Grundy's "agreed upon value" policies are very convenient.

Basically, YOU set the value, and the premium is adjusted to that. If you get crazy, they will ask for pictures/receipts, but it's nothing unreasonable.

It's a great feature - you can come clean on mods AND get paid for them if the car is damaged if you set the "agreed upon value" correctly.

I'm with Hagerty also (switched after it was recommended in this site). I have 5 cars on the policy and for a year it's less than I was paying for 6 months with my main insurance. I think the insurance coverage is better also with them 0 deductable, free glass replacement, and includes flat bed tow insurance.

You still have to have separate insurance for your daily driver,.but I have been very happy with Hagerty.

wtf.... thats dumb... I agree. get a new insurance company. Are you a first responder or military veteran by chance? if so, go with GEICO. they cater to "us". When I bought my Harley truck, they gave me a big discount once I disclosed I was a veteran with a copy of my DD214. I'm talking a couple hundred bucks a year. A few months later, I found out that they will insure/cover modifications if receipts are provided. I provided receipts for everything done to my truck and my insurance only went up 40 bucks a year. So now I'm paying 239/month for full coverage on a highly modifed Harley Davidson F150 with all mods covered.... This is with my licensed being suspended for yr, and 2 careless op tickets on my record.

I have All State, general insurance on my stuff.
All State does work with Grundy and will issue an agreed upon value policy.

Yes, this EXACT question was asked about my 2013 when I asked to get a Grundy quote.

May just go Hagerty because they were actually cheaper and didn't ask dumb questions and it looks like people here have been happy.

Remember, there is BOOK VALUE and AGREED UPON VALUE.
Don't get caught short if the shit hits the fan.

Fwiw, I'm retired military, and left Gieco and USAA; garbage.

Geico had the highest rates of ANY insuance company I contacted. In fact, they were $400 MORE a year than what I was paying which was almost double! **** Geico and theyre ****ing annoying ass commercials smh.

Geico insures EVERYONE including high risk drivers and ppl like me have to pay for it. IDN why anyone would ever chose Geico. ANY insurance comany I looked at was cheaper. They insure all the scroats!

I dont think ive ever stopped anyone at work that didnt have Geico Insurance and I work in the ****ing Ghetto!

I recently went through this myself on 2 occasions with Hagerty. The first was with my 800 hp foxbody. When they asked for HP level, I was honest. They said they wouldn’t insure my car because it made too much power. So I had to get a dyno printout from a friend that showed the car only made 500. I told them I switched engines. Haha. They covered me after that.
A few days ago I went on the website to get a quote for my Cobra. One of the questions was if the engine has been modified to make more than 50 hp from factory. I didn’t check the box.
Anyways, I believe as long as the car doesn’t make more than 600 hp you’re all set. However, they never asked me for a dyno sheet to prove the power level. (Only when I told them it was 800). Bottom line is that if you lie about your power level, I’m almost certain you’ll be all set.

How long have you been with Allstate, Pete? I had Allstate for about 30 years (auto and home) and switched to USAA 5 years ago and got better rates. Did you find your rates with Allstate to be lower than USAA? Or did you leave USAA for another reason? I'm interested in why you like Allstate better. I'm not tied to USAA if there are better choices. Thanks for your input.

I'll keep it short so as not to detrack the OPs original topic.

My household is 4 vehicles, 2 drivers, my age 47, wifes age 42.
No traffic violations since age 24; California rolling stop lol
0 claims filed
I have full coverage on everything.

- Was a member w/ USAA from 1998-2016. In the early years it was only open to NCOs and above. At some point they "sold out" went commercial and opened the flood gates. It's only gone down hill since, imo.

- 4 years ago, I finally got tired of seeing a significant rate increase on all my insurance premiums. I can understand maybe a $20-$50 increase, but, north of $250 per 6 months?

- I can throw a lawn dart and select just about any insurance company that's cheaper with similar or better coverage.

- Only thing I have with USAA now is banking. I ask for money, they say yes in under 20 minutes.

- My insurance company, All State has a local office and I prefer that.
They know me and they know my cars. And my insurance is $600.00 less a year with EQUAL coverage's that I had with USAA.

Feel free to PM me w/ any other questions or comments :)
