My town council is trying to ban open carry on all town property including greenways and parks. How is this constitutional? It is legal to open carry in our state. They said that they are not going to ban concealed carry but if they are going this far what’s going to stop them from more over reach.

What are the state laws and preemption status? Here, quite a few cities did that only to be shot down in court. Research, then help the leaders understand what they can and can’t do because honestly, most don’t know the current laws and don’t run it by an attorney well versed in that area beforehand. Also, notify any active pro-gun bodies in your area.

I assume you are referring to the People's Republic of Holly Springs. It's not over yet. GRNC will almost assuredly sue them.

Looks like any municipality can prohibit them.

Keeping with the theme of elections and those elected, I give you something fitting when it comes to political stupidity:

Section 12, paragraph F as amended looks like you’re still screwed.

Found this but looks like it’s from 2012. Something this important should be the same state wide. If you are traveling and happen to stop in a town while open or concealed you shouldn’t have to worry about all the different municipalities that have different requirements for firearms.

I absolutely agree, and I would suggest a letter to the state legislature making that your primary talking point. That or start a petition for fellow like minded individuals as it also impacts out of state people who enjoy reciprocity with NC. That would include myself. I know this has been talked about extensively at the Federal level and is something that honestly should be enacted for that exact reason.

Laws are just a suggestion. No need to follow them! :p

Elected? Like to a HOA? Sure. A real post with a pension and stuff, not so much. Just curious how high the bar is.
