I work for a national fast casual restaurant brand (Panera Bread). As many have stated above, these price increases are mainly driven by wage pressures and more complex business models (ecommerce channels, high level of customization, etc.). Don't forget all of the COVID safety measures that are being taken (packaging everything to-go, etc.)

Food inflation really isn't all that terrible.

Also, just about everyone is forced onto the delivery platforms (Uber Eats, GrubHub, Doordash) which also cut into restaurant margins quite a bit. They definitely need the sales right now, but they aren't free!

We were always priced on the high side, particularly in the last 5 years or so, but are working on some more value-based options!

Explain to me how I can't order a steak quesorito at the store (inside or drivethru), but I can order it online through the app and then pick it up at the store? What...the...****...

You guys remember:
The chicken Ranchero soft taco?
The fire tacos (and burritos) with that lava sauce? Used to love getting the crunch wrap supreme + lava sauce

Yup. A local BBQ place put a $1 charge on all to go order and has a sign explaining that before the cost of to go packaging was worked into everyone's bills equally but now that 75% of people are getting to go...it's costing them a LOT more for all the packaging.

I didnt even think of covid price hikes. Seen stuff starting to go up due to covid as well. Wife said places are charging more for hair/nails. They’re obviously doing a fraction of the business they did before.

I dont even want to talk about how much we spend on groceries now. Its insane

The land of commies and socialists!
I no longer eat fast food. I don’t want to look like the customers.

Me either, I actually avoid it at all costs with the one exception of the seldom trip through In n out burger. I am not one to preach about health and fitness but I cut out all fast food (used to eat it 2-4 times a week), processed carbohydrates and sugars recently. Not only have I lost 25lbs but my skin has completely cleared up which I wasn't anticipating. I haven't had clear skin since I was 12!

For $10 I can get outside slow cooked pulled pork BBQ w/slaw, a serving of cowboy casserole and a drink. And not have to run home to blow the bottom out of the toilet!
Cowboy casserole? You get that served on Brokeback Mountain?

From CNN: Its Trumps fault. Mexicans cant get over the wall like they use to so Taco Bell had to raise prices.

Had a craving for some TB, so I went. WTF happened to the prices?! You used to be able to buy the entire menu for like $20...now a damn chalupa meal is almost $10 and soft taco supreme meal almost $8. Then to top it off I had an old person moment; told the wife “Remember when you could buy the tacos for 39c?” FML

Back then the ferry to Shelbyville only cost a nickel. And nickels had bees on them. "Give me five bees for a quarter!" you'd say.

That's what you guys sound like.

That said I skip TB because somehow the Taco Bellends at the one around here take 40min to serve 3 customers, and still **** up your order. It takes less time and costs less to go to the store and make it yourself.

The one thing they did get right was the cheesy gordita crunch. Whoever invented that should get a NoBell prize. No more biting a hard shell taco and that thing dumping its contents everywhere. The soft shell holds it together, and what better adhesive to use than cheese?

It’s not uncommon to go to our local Taco Bell before and after the Covid stuff and they be out of lettuce, chicken, tomatoes....pretty much everything to make a taco.

One night we went there and basically all you could get was a bean burrito. Lol

For example, I remember when their bean burrito was 49 or 59 cents (used to eat them for lunch in high school), but are $1.29 now.

You haven’t been recently then.

They (and soft tacos) have been 1.59 for awhile, and they jumped to 1.89 a few months ago. I’m not in a large inflated city either.

It was over 10 bucks today for 5 items.

The hell is this garbage...

Haven't been lately? I said I was a connoisseur. I go almost 3 times a week.

I guess different areas have different prices. Where I live it's a $1.29.
