Guys, are there any extensions, special wrenches, or procedures I need to remove the stock cat pipes?

I have cat delete pipes inbound and want to make sure I have what I need before raising the car and cracking into it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input, been reading about needing all types of extensions and a swivel 15mm socket and the nuts still not coming off.

For the replacement pipe, do I reuse the studs or get new bolts? If so which size and length?

So the extensions and wobble socket didn't cut it both outside nuts are now rounding over.

I used liquid wrench on them for 3 days prior each day. Looks like they are rusted solid.

Anything else I should try before taking it to a shop?

Got an Irwin bolt extractor set. Ripped through the outside passenger side bolt after applying probably 200ft lbs with my breaker bar

Just take a ****ing sawzall to the engine side of the cat and run open pipes

(I'm sorry I'm no help but I might've made you chuckle)

Sounds like a plan to me! Breaking that bolt was very satisfying

Let's hope the inside bolts come out easier when I get under the car

Maybe warm up the exhaust a bit then try it. Or just cut the other off with dremel. I used all new bolts since thats what came with what I replaced. I had no trouble taking mine off.

Definitely considering the dremel for the inside bolts. The cat delete pipes came and have all new hardware

Anyone know a good exhaust shop near 19446?

My exhaust is a ****ing travesty. Rounded off the 2 inside cat bolts

Busting those studs turned a easy job into a nightmare

The manifolds will most likely need to be removed to be repaired properly

Luckily if needed these should be easy to find used

I just did this. I have oxy/acetylene torches, and it was still difficult. I broke both studs off on the driver's side, but it's no problem because the studs are pressed into the cats, so I just heated up the flange and knocked them out with a hammer, then used through bolts when putting it back together. On the passenger side, I was able to heat and unthread both nuts, but that outside one was a major pain. I tried 10 times, heating it red hot then pounding a socket on and trying to unthread it. Finally got it off just when I was about to give up. This car has over 100,000miles on it and has been driven through Canadian winters. I think the studs and nuts might be stainless, but they still seemed to be locked together with rust.

Thanks for the input guys, I ended up taking it to a shop. They got them off and install the entire exhaust.

I still have the stock cats but will need new studs.

Sorry to slightly highjack, but did you end up finding true cat deletes that only replace the cat portion and retain the OEM mid-pipe, or did you change both? Can't seem to find just the cat portion pipes.

BBK still makes a set of the small cat delete pipes that go from manifold to stock H pipe connection. With EPA cracking down on companies/tuners most everyone has discontinued their cat deletes.
