Looking to do a resonator delete looking at buy mbrp x pipe t409. Anyone have these? I also saw one on lethal performance for 349 the mbrp is 219. Are they different in sound?
I am also considering the resonator delete. I am finding out that this topic is laden with conflicting information. Based on what I have determined so far; the 350R and 350 have the identical X-pipe and the only difference in the exhaust system is the resonators and the connection of the resonator to the pipe - on the 350 that section appears to reduce down to a 2 1/2" portion where they meet the exhaust. The 350R does not have that reduction and the piping remains the same size throughout.
Anyone have a suggestion on just having a muffler shop cut out resonators and simply put in a piece of tubing to match the existing diameter of remaining pipe? Seems to me that no system is required; just a good exhaust shop that does decent welding.
Hell some of the kits use flanges that get tightened by a screwdriver... no welds which I found odd.
That's not quite accurate. The only difference is that the R doesn't have resonators. Full stop. The diameters in the rest of the system are the same (hence using the same mufflers, tail sections, etc).
The reason there are "kits" sold is for the do it yourself crowd. You can cut them out and simply slip/clamp vs welded connections. At the end of the day, if a section of steel piping is from Johnny's exhaust shop or comes from a vendor kit, it will sound the same. Ironically, the cost is comparable either route (you pay MORE for a vendor kit, then your own labor/time is free, you pay LESS for Johnny's materials, but you pay for his lift and labor).
If not reconfiguring anything else in the system (like the factory x) and it's just replacing resonators with straight tube, the cars will sound the same. What blurs the issue is that some of these vendor "kits" go beyond the resonator delete and start going further and swapping out factory x pipe for other stuff. At the end of the day, it'll still sound VERY similar but starts to change the configuration of the exhaust slightly (but the headers and the mufflers are the chief components of what makes the sound)
So... I am 100% correct in what I wrote. Your response is exactly what I meant. Not trying to be difficult here but it is exactly what I wrote.
Cut the damn resonator out - replace with piping of same size allowing no reductions = R sound.
