First drag strip run with VMP Gen 2R in Denver...only 12.8 time

Was finally able to take the Mustang out to the local drag strip (Bandimere) after installing the Gen 2R Stage 1 kit last year. I was somewhat disappointed with a fastest time of 12.8. However, this seemed to roughly the around the same speed the stock 13-14 GT500’s were running. This is my first time to a drag strip, so I was trying to get used to the track and the tree. I was only launching at around 1500 rpm or so due to wheel spin.

I understand we lose a bunch of power in Denver due to altitude, and I need to work on my technique, plus maybe a better tire.

One issue I encountered a few times was inability to shift into 3rd. I do have the older MGW shifter, but appears the fix is a new clutch and upgraded clutch line...will upgrade those next year.

Practice and experience will definitely improve your track times. How many runs did you get in?

MPH will give us a better idea of what horsepower you are making, regardless of the ET.
Don't worry about not putting up big numbers your first time drag racing. Find people with similar setups at the track (like the GT500s) and ask questions. Most people will help you out. There are tricks you learn over time, like driving around the water box, no burnout on street tires (just turn them over a few times to get rocks/debris off) shallow staging and leaving on the 3rd yellow (not pro tree) are little tricks that will help your ET. Getting your 60ft down will help you the most, as every tenth of a second you shave off your 60ft is good for 2 tenths off the ET.
Each track is a bit different and no two visits are exactly alike thanks to weather and prep.
Practice, try different combinations, and ask questions.
It takes time to learn...

If you post your time slips and the DA/density altitude Im sure people could help you out with what the car might be capable of. It's damned sure not as easy as people make it out to be

Here is the time slip...left lane. A new 2020 GT500 was in the right lane.

This was my best time, but worst reaction...was waiting on green for this one. The rest of the runs has better reaction times as I started working off the yellow, but times were worse due to shifting issues at high RPM.

Only got two time trials in, while managing to screw up in eliminations...my foot slipped off the clutch and I red lighted.

Will need to go back during a test and tune night when its not nearly as busy.

Just to be clear - your reaction time could be .000 or 10.000 and you'll get the same ET

Well, you’d expect to see a ~130 ish trap for the 2020 in the right lane at sea level.. He’s 10 mph short of that. I’d guess you should be in the 125 mph range... which is consistent with that 10 mph deficit for the 2020. 125 is about what a trinity will lay down stock...so that seems consistent as well.

We need more info on your set up. Post up what intake, throttle body, exhaust, pulley size, and fuel used.

The good thing about altitude is you can put a smaller pulley on to make up for the altitude. Do you know how much boost you make? The biggest pulley you should be using is a 79mm but you might be able to get away with a 75mm. You want to target roughly 10psi, this is very safe. Before doing any of the above please consult your tuner

It’s basically the stock VMP Gen2R setup...JLT intake, 60mm twin throttle body, stock exhaust, 82mm pulley, 91 octane, 285/35-19
Continental extreme contact rear tires, and 3.55 gears.
To be honest, I’m not looking to push power levels with more upgrades...sure I’d take more, but fairly happy with current power levels at this time. Just had it dynotuned a few weeks ago...went from 560 to 609 rwhp.

I’m mainly interested in determining what a realistic 1/4 mile time can be obtained with the current setup. I know I need a bit of practice...and to remember to turn off traction control.
