Went to go look at a 2019 GT350R with 555 miles on it. I test drove it and liked it and I asked "so whats the history on this? Guy didn't like it and traded it in for something else?" And he goes, "this was actually a manufacturer buyback due to repeated engine block repairs. On the autocheck it shows it as a lemon."

They're asking 67k for the car and its a lemon and the lemon is for engine problems.

I'm on the fence. Would you guys do the deal? I test drove it and it looks almost new besides the lower front lip being beat up at one spot.

I just think 67k is way out there being a lemon but then again i'm not an expert in these issues. My concern is potential resale value.

This is the car im referring to Autotrader - page unavailable

In this market, I'd pass, simply because the question you're asking is the same question others will ask if you ever go to sell it. The only way I'd buy a lemon car is at a STEEP STEEP discount, so that I was assured when I went to sell it, I could get my money out of it.

However, if you KNOW, beyond any shadow of doubt you'll keep the car forever and it's the one for you, then proceed. But who can know such things. It's the same with a car that has a Carfax collision history. Car might be right as rain, but the perception will lower the value for most buyers.

There you go! Nick has given you great advice.

IMO if you really want it at a fair price considering it was a buy-back, offer $40K (giving the reasons why it should be lowered to that level) and see if the dealer bites. Something tells me they won't take less than $60K. If they won't budge, this one is a no-brainer....walk away.

Thanks all. I drove 78 miles one way with the intent on buying it, but didn’t know of the lemon issue at all.

Hard pass for me I suppose, before I left I actually asked why they had it priced as a GT350R with a clean history and they actually said that it only has 500 miles on it and MSRP was 72,xxx. They continued with 5,000 off MSRP being a great deal for an almost new GT350R. I was kinda floored with that response.

They have a 2014 GT500 with a lemon history as well for $39,000... I don’t think these guys understand lemon vehicles.

It *could* be a fine car if it was repaired properly, but without details I'd run. It needs to be way way cheaper to be worth risking it. Is the factory warranty even still good on it?

They said that it carries the remainder of the factory warranty and nothing else.
Salesman even said that if I were to have the same issues that the previous owner did, that Ford would buy it back. But not sure if that’s just a way for them to downplay the lemon.

I’m running, far, the more you guys post, the more that I realize I’m an idiot for even entertaining the idea.

Essentially, they are trying to sell a Gt350r with a lemon brand that has known repeated engine issues for *only* $5,000 off MSRP lol....

I've come close several times buying a lemon, buyback car. It has to be a great price for the diminished value you will inherent.

I have yet to see any R models go less than $49K with very little mileage.

If you plan on keeping the car for a very long time then getting it for under $50K would be a steal. The car will come guaranteed and if not mistaken if anything goes wrong you can turn the car back in.

I would also demand a 100K mile, 6 year Premium warranty at a very low price like $1,500 bucks.

It can be a great deal and Car if you plan to keep it but that price is funny

Does anyone want to be a guinea pig and low ball them and see what they say? I'd snag it up if it was mid 40s

... I don’t think these guys understand lemon vehicles.

They understand them quite well. They know that people are very emotional and that they will make a huge boat load of cash once they find the right sucker. I've ran across many certified lemons at many dealers; they know exactly what they are doing.

Just posting this in case someone looking at this car comes across this thread. I asked for an oasis report just out of curiosity and they sent me the report. First it had defective racing stripes so they replaced the racing stripes.. lol

Then, cylinder number 6 had a misfire and looks like they pretty much replaced the entire head.

Then, looks like they found the left valve cover leaking due to a failed gasket and gasket was replaced.

Car bought back this past January.

All this within 500 miles. I’m gonna guess that this car is definitely going to have life long problems. Should be striped and sold for parts imo...

Some dealerships cause more problems than they fix on these cars. Seen several buyback cars that way.

Could be the case here minus the Stripe issue.

I thought the Engine was replaced but that wasn't the case?

You can find clean title R's for lower than that. Id run from a car with 500 miles that already has that kind of history
