I’m thinking about dropping a 6R80 in my 2012, and have lots of questions.

1. I found a 2011-2012 6r80, would this be ideal for my car vs a newer one, or does it make a difference?

2. For a car making 800whp or so, would the PBH 1000HP rebuild kit suffice, or are there other parts I should upgrade while it’s apart? It’s going to be primarily a street car but I will beat on it a good bit.

3. What’s the best torque converter or is it preference? I know TCI has always made great stuff and offers one but it looks like the circle D is also very popular.

4. I currently have a DSS 1 piece aluminum DS in the car. Will this work (I thought I read it can’t) and if not does anyone know if DSS can modify it for the correct length?

5. What’s a general ballpark that I can expect to get out of my takeoff parts and what’s the desirability like for them on the used market? It’s got a MGW gen 2, Spec twin disc that’s only got a few thousand miles on it, and then I guess all the factory stuff like console trim, pedal assembly, etc.

6. Will the stock GT trans cooler and lines suffice a FL street car or should I go ahead and do the PBH trans cooler with fan?

7. Will the 6r80 clear Kooks LT’s going in and out?

8. Anything else I should know going into it?

Thanks in advance.

Definitely subscribing.
I know you will have to decide on either using a coyote PCM or a USShift Quick 6. The PCM swap is more involved with the wiring, but it may have more capability. Your driveshaft will have to be changed, but I do not know the length. Upgrade parts for the 6R80 can go from mild to wild. Clutch packs, billet intermediate shaft to start. Then a billet planetary or a PBH 4Rxx if you want to get really heavy duty.
I'm just starting my research. I'm sure someone will chime in and offer a lot more info.

I'm aware of the PCM, I was just going to use a coyote and have Lund tune it. The setup I'm looking at comes with one as well as the factory harness.

The PBH 1000HP rebuild kit comes with the clutch packs and intermediate shafts. Just wondering if the Bluestreak billet planetary is needed or the PBH center support or anything. I don't mind spending the $$ if it's warranted, but I don't want to piss away a bunch of money and replacing parts that don't need replacing either. They claim they have cars running low 8's on the rebuild kit but it doesn't say whether they're running the other parts too.

I’m thinking about dropping a 6R80 in my 2012, and have lots of questions.

1. I found a 2011-2012 6r80, would this be ideal for my car vs a newer one, or does it make a difference? 2011-2014 are the same. I have used a 2014 trans with both 2012 and 2014 PCM.

2. For a car making 800whp or so, would the PBH 1000HP rebuild kit suffice, or are there other parts I should upgrade while it’s apart? It’s going to be primarily a street car but I will beat on it a good bit. I ran my car on a low mile stock trans for a while at 750. It always kinda scared me after a couple years so I put the PBH kit in this spring when my rear blew up.

3. What’s the best torque converter or is it preference? I know TCI has always made great stuff and offers one but it looks like the circle D is also very popular. I run a Circle D 2c and have for 4ish years since I did the swap.

4. I currently have a DSS 1 piece aluminum DS in the car. Will this work (I thought I read it can’t) and if not does anyone know if DSS can modify it for the correct length? Nope you need a 2011-2014 Coyote driveshaft, the 6060 is longer than the 6r80

I sold my trans for 2200, shaft and mgw for a extra as well

6. Will the stock GT trans cooler and lines suffice a FL street car or should I go ahead and do the PBH trans cooler with fan? I run a stock one here in the midwest, and it does fine. However we dont get over 95 in the summer.

7. Will the 6r80 clear Kooks LT’s going in and out? no idea I ran MBRP and Dynatech headers with the swap

8. Anything else I should know going into it? You will lose knock sensors, that was the biggest thing I didnt know

Thanks in advance.

Car is a flipping blast to drive with the swap. Do the 13/14 cluster swap while you have it all apart and use the 13/14 shifter and wire in select a shift. Having gone from the 12 ecu/shifter to the quick 6 controller to the 13/14 ecu/shifter/cluster. Skip the rest and go straight to the 13/14 stuff.

Did you Just do the PBH rebuild kit, or did you do billet planetary too? PBH is recommending both of the planetary’s be upgraded which is $2800 just for those. I seem to recall lots of coyote guys putting down big power and not upgrading anything in the trans.

Does the 13-14 swap get you paddle shifters?

I just did the intermediate shaft and clutch pack. It does firm up the shifts quite a bit.

Its not paddles like the 2015+ behind the wheel, its the buttons on the side of the shifter but it allows you to control what gear its in. I like to drop down manually when doing rolls. If not you will drop from 6th to 2nd when you punch it.

Does anyone know on the '07-'09 cars what driveshaft we need? Is it still the 2011-2014 or is it different?

Guys, call PBH with any questions that you have. Those guys sell a kit if I remember correctly but they for sure will be glad to tell you everything that you want to know about this swap.
