No, serious business. Is the inspection for illegally acquired parts a real thing, or are you being sarcastic?
They make sure that the parts are new, or you can prove you purchased them legally. If not, you could strip two cars, apply for a new VIN number and wa-la you have a car.
The troopers are mostly good-natured when you are there. Last time I did this, the tallest Trooper came up to me and said:
Trooper: Your car looks fast, how fast can it go?
Me: I don't know, I haven't been able to drive it.
Trooper: I tell you what, drive it down to the end of the service road here, and drive back as fast as you can, and I will radar you and tell you how fast you were going.
Me: (seems wrong.....)
Me: Nooooo, you'd give me a ticket!
All Troopers: Belly laughs!
Their report goes to Jeff City, and then Jeff City makes a VIN tag for the car and sends the VIN tag back to the Troopers. Then I go back to the Troopers and together we attach the VIN tag to the car, and they then stamp the rivits with a special stamp.
