I have a 2002 True Blue Gt Mustang. Manual with black interior great shape bone stock besides cobra brakes and wheels. It has 49k miles and runs great no issues. Someone offered me a straight trade for a Black 2003 cobra with no issues besides low compression on 2 cylinders. Would that be a good straight up trade and how much would it cost to fix? Thanks

The fact theyre willing to trade straight up should hint at the possible extent of it. It's hard to gauge without more info - how low are they and how far off are they from the "good" cylinders. The motor is likely coming out. If its 2 adjacent cyclinders then best case scenario it's a new head gasket. Worse case scenario pistons are broken, cylinders are scored and heads are chewed up from pieces parts mashing around in the cylinder.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking the same things. He is taking the car in to get a quote and to see what is wrong. I’ll get back to you guys when I get the info!

The guy said the compressions were 128,125,129,124,125,80,75,127 so cylinder 6,7. Any good?

The wild card are the heads. Seems like rods, crank usually good. Piston first to go....but did it also get into the heads? $$$$

Also, how is the rest of the car? Trans, clutch, rear end? More factors to your bottom line

What everyone else has said basically!
If you’re mechanically inclined and can do a lot of work yourself, then consider that a +1 for the Cobra. Start shopping for a good set of low mile or rebuilt heads and start looking at a basic shortblock rebuild to whatever level you’re looking for. That will give you a good idea of possible worst case scenario for the motor cost assuming you do the majority of the work and the rest of the car doesn’t have issues.
If it were me and the rest of the car checked out, it would already be in my garage on jack stands! True Story ;)
