I have a 2008 GT500 with the Shaker 1000. I have just the standard head unit and would like to upgrade to the display and hopefully bluetooth. Is there any difference in Ford head units from the same years? I see different part numbers listed but can find almost no info on compatibility. Is there special Shaker only functions in a unit for our cars that one for say an Edge wouldn't have? The plugs and everything else on the back is identical. Sorry if this has been answered before. I have been searching all afternoon with very little info found.

Do not bother with an OEM headunit. You are going to get ALOT more functionality out of something aftermarket and alot cheaper and easier!
As far as compatibility, you just need to look at the plugs, but chances are you will be digging to find a stock option to interchange plugs. Again not worth the effort IMHO

Just go aftermarket. My model is very old, but I have every option one could want!
Here is a video outlining the install and parts needed to get the job done.

Agreed, check out Crutchfield. They have complete kits with bezels if the head unit needs it, wiring and instructions.

Yeah the more I have been researching things I think I am just going to use the Kenwood double din I have new in the box. Looks like with the Maestro RR2 you can get some cool functionality too.

I think the Maestro for a pre 10 car is a waste of money, but yea that is an option if you want to spend as much as an ngauge to see odb2 pids on your screen but less functionality

I thought about the Ngauge as well. I was trying to avoid an a pillar mount but I may change my mind. The Maestro does't seem as expensive for the 10 and older since the integration add on is less. I like the idea of having readouts for radar detectors on the screen.

I mounted my Ngauge in the vent. Nice and out of the way, but there when you want to look over. Sucks on the driver side though with sun reflection so I may move it to the middle, otherwise its been great.
I didnt know the Maestro could do radar integration as well. That is pretty cool if you have that need.

I had thought of that but I am mounting my two widebands in center vents. I am not sure I want a 3rd mostly blocked too. lol

Why not just use the Ngauge for wideband display? I think you are over complicating this. You really do not need 2 widebands either. They should be pretty damn close that monitoring both is moot.
