Last night, my 17.5 year old Yorkie passed away while in bed with us. She was having trouble breathing, it sounded like she had fluid on her heart or lungs, her breathing was long between and sounded difficult for her.

The past couple of weeks she had started to lose her balance, and would sometimes have trouble standing, her legs would seem unsteady. But she was eating, drinking and still very affectionate.

Taking today off work to bury her and explain to my boys (9 and 11), and to regain my composure.

I'm happy she passed while under the sheets laying next to my side in bed. Best way I could have hoped for.

Good night, Lexi. You will be dearly missed.

Sorry to hear man, dogs are best friends. I have a husky that has been around before my son was born. They are best friends, I dread the day my girl is gone, I don't even know how to explain it to him. Again, sorry for your loss, been through it several times myself and it is never easy.

Hate these threads. I’m not even 100% a dog person but I always catch myself being around onions reading the threads about dogs passing away.

Sorry man.

Our Lexi is about 12 now and the thought of losing her makes the onions even worse.

Yeah, these threads are difficult. Losing a pet is heart wrenching but I'm glad she had a good long life.

I have a 5 month old Yorkie and he is just the happiest loving little guy and I love him to death.

So Sorry! I had a Mini Schnouser that had puppies with a Yorkie and we called then "Shnorkies". 17.5 years is a long full life and u should be grateful for that. She was really beautiful and looked really sweet.

These threads always get to me. So sorry for the passing of your beloved pet. I have been down this road eight times over the years, at 73, I can't take it anymore. As great as it is to have all the positive things associated with animals, they just don't live long enough. The heart ache is real and comes back to visit, every time someone you know, has to deal with it. RIP Lexi girl.

Sorry for your loss OP. Been down that road in the last few years, and I dread that day in the future (still have 2 dogs).

Sorry for your loss, it’s so damn hard losing a pet. We lost our cat last year unexpectedly and I was a mess. Originally I didn’t even want a cat but we compromised and then I grew to really love him. We have 2 dogs too and I wish I could figure out how to make them live forever. Hang in there OP

Sorry for your loss bud. Our Golden Retriever 10 years ago or so developed some tumors and honestly he just ran away. Which might have been okay, because after putting my cat down last week and holding her while doing so, I can't even imagine owning another animal at this point
