Thanks for that. It kinda adds up. The Guys in his 50s and doesn’t look like he knows much but he did mention whenever a 5.0 or camaro or charger wanted to race from light to light he’d walk them or be neck and neck with them.

I'd ask if he has a handheld tuner or know if it was ever tuned (he probably doesn't know). Very basic mods but still could be bad news if it wasn't tuned and upped the boost (hard to tell the pulley size in the tiny pic). Like said above it you do a compression test and/or leak down and it checks out chances are you're ok.

Thanks for all the input guys. The guy was compliant up until I asked if I could compression check the car. The guy ended up not letting me get a compression check on the car. He didn’t even let me use my obd on the car so I walked..

Lmao

2 - have the current owner take a lie detector test.

Lol.

No need for #2 as long as you ask for #1.....#1 is the lie detector test, as Claudio just found out. 99.9% that motor is trash, and the guy selling sure as shit knew it was.

$20k for a hurt motor car.....then add in $15k for a rebuild. Claudio would have been in bed with this car for $35,000 minimum. Probably more.....bet that pos isn't telling the truth about other issues beyond the compression

Unfortunately shit happens and there’s a lot of crooked people out there. Thank you all for the info. The search will continue.

I would offer a mechanic to check it out. These things are getting rarer and rarer I’m good condition. I wouldn’t pass on it. You probably won’t find a lie mike stock 03-04 Cobra for 20k anyway. These cars are slowly starting to appreciate in value...

just my humble opinion

If we had agreed on a price and you had made a small non-refundable deposit toward the purchase for my timer and effort, I would do a compression check and leak down test in my garage with your supervision. I would not want every tire kicker that came by to mess with my car under the hood. Even if it is a "mechanic" provided by the buyer. The four head threads can be damaged by any ham handed mechanic and I don't take the plugs out hot for any reason. So, sometimes it is the owner protecting his interests from someone that seems only half serious about the car.

I saw that car on Craigslist about a month ago. I saw the engine picture and that it had at minimum a pulley. Asked thewthe seller what # owner he was and pulley/tune he had. One he said I dont know what mods it has.... I stopped inquiring.

Good luck in your hunt!
