VMP Gen-II R vs. 13/14 OEM TVS

I need to replace a seized Gen 2 (non-R) on my 2010 and have basically decided on a Gen-II R or an OEM 13/14 TVS.

I'm curious as to the power difference between these two, as I believe the original Gen 2 had a slight advantage, but I know there are users out there making 650 whp pretty easily with the 13/14.

Are we talking 10-20 hp or more like 50+ difference between these two? I'm not a huge fan of putting a big "5.8" on top of a 5.4, but I may be able to get the 13/14 quite a bit cheaper.

Also, I'm running 52/56# injectors, so if the Gen-II R is enough added power that I'd need to upgrade to 80# or something to be safe, I'd definitely take that into consideration.

My mods are pretty basic: Stock exhaust, 67mm VMP TB, JLT 123mm, 52/56# injectors, & VMP BAP's.

Thanks!

650 is no problem, like at all. My car made lower part of 700's at one point on pump gas even with the stock elbow, but that was spinning it pretty hard. 5.8 guys make quite a bit more steam with these even unported and stock elbow
Add a ported elbow and my guess there is little to no difference to the VMP model, other than maybe more reliable with the Ford one.

Thanks PM. And just to clarify, you're comparing it against the 2R and not the original Gen 2, right?

And what's the smallest conservatively safe pulley you recommend with my injectors? I'm guessing the smallest pullies may be an issue, but not sure.

Are you looking for new 2R or used? If you could buy a used trinity in good shape for cheap, it would be hard to turn your nose up at it. I'd say it depends. They're not going to be a lot different in terms of durability or reliability. Ford doesn't make the rotor pack, Eaton does and makes them for any 2.3 TVS out there. The 2R will make more power on the top end, but unless you're going with all the power adders, you might not benefit from it.... and if you did, you may need more injector. If you're not sure, err on the 2R, so you don't see yourself upgrading again down the road. I'm not sure how either choice would affect resale if you're still headed that direction.

Figure its about a $1500 for a used trinity TVS and $2k for a 2R and probably 30-40 HP more out of the 2R so its just really if that ends up being worth it to you. Also just reference I have the basically the same mods, INJ, BAP, TB etc as you and run a 2.4 pulley on my 2R and the 56lb injectors are fine on pump gas still with stock lower

I had a Gen2R on my '11. Stock manifolds, basic bolts ons and pump 93. See attached link for the set up, dyno #'s etc.

Go with a Gen2R over a stock Trinity. Ported Trinity and Gen2R are pretty close in feel. So in that case, price would motivate which one I would pick.

The Gen2R was a GREAT blower honestly.
If I had a '11-'12, I wouldn't hesitate to get another.

The Gen2R will probably be sought after for many years for the 5.4 platform.

I am running a Gen2R, 52lbers, 2.5 inch pulley, stock lower, on 93 octane with a failing Kenne Bell BAP I was at 656 at the wheels. I have since replaced the Kenne Bell with Lethal version and my AA/F ratio at WOT is rock steady below 11 so I think with the Lethal BAP I could have been much closer to 700. My car has 143K miles on it too, so I was happy with that number.

I would say with the stock elbow it compares more to the 2 and with an oversized ported elbow it compares to the 2R. The 2R may be a tiny bit more hogged out before it hits the rotors so it may have the slight edge, but I wouldn't pay much more for it than a Trinity. You can find them pretty dirt cheap though.
Anytime I was considering selling my Trinity for a 2R literally everyone told me to not bother and it made no sense as they were compareable and with porting the Trinity would kill it.
Keep in min they were blowing out 3's for like $2700 a couple months ago new.

I had the GEN II on my car for a while and made with the bigger TB using a 2.5 pulley 664 rwhp
I used 56pd injectors too with a BAP
