I heard a rumor from a youtube video of someone getting a blower put on. The tuner made a mention of he heard that the 2013 Mustang GT received the connecting rods from the 2012 Boss 302? Can anyone confirm or shoot that rumor down? Will be getting a VMP GEN3R soon and I want to know if the rods are the weakness I think they are.

I watched the same VMP youtube video. I don't think the rumor is true but hopefully someone with a 13-14 who has taken one apart will chime in.

From what I’ve seen after installing a Gen2R kit, I was more concerned about the oil pump gears than the rods. I went ahead and changed out my oil pump gears as a result and havnt worried about the rest of the internals at this time.

Late '14, just regular 1st gen coyote GT rods judging by the view from the oil pan. The only the 2nd gen parts that really made it to the '14 GT were sometimes the cylinder heads.

One way to solve this, someone needs to crank the boost and see what happens. Any takers?

They are definitely not Boss rods...I’ve seen mine on my 14 up close...
