Been mulling a C head swap for a while, recently came across some Aviator heads for a good price. AG/DA castings. For those who have done a C swap or have experience with these heads:
1) those are 4 thread heads, correct?
2) car is going to be N/A for now, might see mild boost at some point in the future. Will I be fine with 4 thread heads?

If you are going to have the heads off, take the couple hours it takes to put in 9 thread steel inserts. It's totally worth it. I did it with mine and I don't regret it one bit considering how many times I've seen other guys even with the nine thread heads get their plugs stuck in the aluminum because they forgot to use anti seize. And the C head swap is completely worth it by the way

Checking them out this weekend, I'll keep y'all updated. Actually found another set of AG/DA's local for a good, but more expensive, price. Its looking like that "maybe one day" C-Head swap might be going forward sooner than expected.

Many, many people use 4 thread heads with boost without an issue. You can use the timeserts for piece of mind if you want.

This.

If you wanna do inserts just chose one with a means to mechanically prevent it from backing out - ie not a helicoil. Also gonna disagree with the advice to use a steel insert, aluminum heads get an aluminum insert. The only issues I’ve heard of people having removing plugs were the 2 piece design on 3 valve heads.

100% correct. Do not use a steel insert, only aluminum.

And if you're not going to boost the car, and you know how to use a torque wrench, you don't need to go through the hassle and expense of inserts.
