Honestly, the front hubs went more than the rear hubs from what I recall. My 2002 Explorer, I bought it with 67K and sold it with 212K and ate only one rear hub (which I do have pictures of somewhere and damn, it was bad). I think I changed my fronts out 3 times in the 10 years I had it.

15 years in the family? That's pretty awesome and still very clean!

Compare it to a new one.

I am glad Lincoln is back to make real luxury. Waiting on the Mark 9 now.

It's a decent vehicle, but a massive gas hog. It averages 16 mpg.

I'd like to get some seat time in the new one.

Sister had one, sold it at 200k and it still ran like a dream. As noted I had to do about every hub on it. The pressed back ones were horrible when rusty. Besides that, brakes gas, & oil is all it needed.

Just traded in the wifes escalade esv (2 DOD issues, which caused cams/lifters to go bad in less than a year) on a 2018 Navigator L. I thought the escalade was the king of big SUV's and boy was I wrong!

The Navigator was the first big lux SUV that set the trend and GM followed, just like with everything GM does following Ford.

Beautiful, and congrats. Im guessing after what happened you did not trust the gmc

Not at all...when the DOD went bad the first time they had our car for nearly a month. We were told there was over 40 escalades with the same issues waiting on parts. It's a shame, because I would get dam near 26mpg on the highway, fully loaded, 5 kids/wife/luggage. I hope they figure out how to fix it.

DOD/AFM is garbage. All these years these pushrod engines have had it and they have yet to bulletproof the system. Last I read it gave the user a 3-5% gain in MPG...

I know certain Dodge/Ram/Jeep vehicles you can turn it off but with Chevy I think only a tune can turn it off.

Genius way for them to get service work though.

Not sure about the Mopar version, but the GM one has some mechanical issues. @Livernois Motorsports has a kit to delete it.

Agreed! Most DOD/AFM systems have too many components that can, and most times will fail.

On a side note @ArabianOak, if you ever want to tune that Navigator we have tuning options for it. They pick up really well with just a tune and 93 octane.

I always kind of liked those Navigators, now the only ones I see are driven by fat white women and they sit uneven.

That's pretty much the trend. Ford sets a badass trend that everyone wants to follow and then Ford just lets it slip and fall by the wayside while everyone takes what they started and improves it and makes it their own. The only one I can think of that they have really kept up on is the supercharging trend that started with the Lightning and the 03 Cobra.

how much? Lol. Also, is warranty gone with your tune?

@ArabianOak
The tune comes with the purchase of our handheld, the MyCalibrator Touch. It's usually $599 but it's on sale now for $499!

As far as warranty, you can always either be up front with your specific dealer and let them know you plan to run a tune. Usually at that point they can advise whether it's a big deal or not. There is also the option of setting the vehicle back to stock prior to taking it in for service.

We were changing rear hubs and toe links on 02+ Explorer/Aviator models on every single truck that came in. Probably one of the worst rear suspension, brake and toe adjustment designs ive ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Almost every single one needed parking brake shoes, toe links or a wheel bearing. And if you had to replace one, getting the parts off the other two items meant that those needed to be replaced also.

The worst part of it all? The owners who almost always scoffed at the price and would leave the dealership in an entirely unsafe vehicle, sometimes with children in the back.

The front hubs were 3 bolts and swap them in. All in one units are stupid easy to replace. Might take you 45 min per side and that was if the thing was rusted to hell.

My wife had a 2005 Exploder which had one original rear hub and the other side i replaced at least twice in its 225k mile adventure.

Can't beat simplicity.

If only the rear hubs were reliable.

Rear hubs, rear toe links, fuel pumps, 4wd modules, parking brake shoes, parking brake cables, IRS LSD 8.8, front axle seals....

or the transfer case which would explode if the tires were more than .3 larger/smaller. I still remember the 3 "balls" in that transfer case and how they would grind themselves into mush trying to keep up with the differing speeds of the drivetrain if the tires were worn differently front to rear.

Only thing worth a damn was the 4V motor and the transmission.

Some people had great success while others barely made it out of financial ruin because of this bodystyle Explorer/Aviator.
