Hey guys,

I’m trying to get the right belt combo. This is a gates K080797RPM which is 79.62”. I ordered a K080817RPM which is 81.77”, because I want to install a metro oversized alternator pully, but I think even with the pully swap it’ll be to lose. There is an in between belt (K080810RPM 81.04”) I’m going to order, but is the car drivable with this belt or should I not drive it until I get a new belt? These things seem to take a couple weeks to ship and the weather is nice. Just don’t want to damage the crank snout or bearings.

But aren't you supposed to run the RPM belts with a lot less tension?

Yes, that is correct. But it can't be so loose it doesn't even hold a hit of the throttle and falls short of target boost. It has to be tight enough.

Looking at that pic......it looks like it's barely registering on that index mark. Probably gonna need 25% more tension. But as I always say.....err on the loose side originally, then tighten if need be. You start off the other direction.....too damn tight.....good chance she gonna snap!

I think one of us us looking at that upside down. Looking at my tensioner I see it as maxed out.

Yea that is just beyond max, it’s very difficult to get the belt on. I don’t in know why SVTP rotates every photo. I re-did it and now it’s easier to see.

Not sure when your belt will arrive but I have two different sizes laying around. They might be to small but can drop them off if you want to try them.

Thanks brother, I caused this problem myself by swapping the more functional Whipple adjustable idler pulley for the more esthetic METCO one. It's just a two bolt swap, I'll just go back to the adjustable Whipple set up until I get the other belt in a week or two. I do appreciate it though.

I'd ditch the metco and keep the whipple adjustable idler pulley on. One of the best supporting mods I've done.

I know, it’s totally esthetic, I’m hoping once I get the belt figured out it’ll be fine. If this next belt doesn’t fit, I’ll go back to the adjustable.
