Getting a drone this week. Not looking to spend a fortune. Mainly for fun, but will also use it in real estate for my larger properties. Are off brands just a good. Im not interested in bragging rights for name brand crap. Function and affordability. Not paying 800 for name when one that does the same for 300.

Who drones?

1080 preferably.

DJI is pretty much the industry standard.
The Mavic pro is a pretty decent machine for what you want.
The Phantom advance, or pro can definitely do everything on your list. They can record in 4K and the included gimbal is really nice.
How do you define “a fortune”?

You will be hard pressed to get a drone that can properly be used in real estate for less than 400 unless it is used. If you bump it up to 500 then maybe. There is the Husban zino, Fimi x8 se and DJI mavic mini in that range. I say this because you will want to purchase extra batteries.

I don't have a ton of experience with drones in that price range though.

I have a Parrot Anafi and Autel Evo. The Anafi was $600 new and the Evo was $1000 new. I like both but the Evo has a better camera and is more stable in the wind. The Anafi has more autonomous features and is quieter. DJI is definitely the market leader but they don't appeal to me all that much. Especially their forced geo-fencing (preventing you from flying if in an area you aren't supposed to fly).

You will also need to get your part 107 license if you want to make money with your drone. Just something to think about.

Below 400 when it comes to drones is really going to be very limited if you want a "quality" unit.

I'd fork out 600 and get a nice used DJI Phantom 3 Advanced or Pro. You get a quality unit and great customer support from DJI products.

Check your local fb marketplace pages and find a used DJI Mavic, Spark, or Phantom 3/4 that somebody bought and never/barely used. I have a Mavic 2 Pro but that's a bit above your budget, love their products though, they just work.

Found a mavic mini for 399 and a bundle with 3 batteries for 499.

I would be ok with spending that.

Fun / 50%
Jeep trail or similar events / 25%
Hi altitude shots for real estate / 25%

That’s going to be your best bet. I had a mini before I got my Mavic 2 pro. It was a good little drone.

I have a Mavic Air, and by no means a Pro, but I’m very happy with it. Use to to take basic overhead shots and the image quality is fantastic.

The Mavic Air 2 just came out so you should be able to pick one up relatively cheap.

Pulling the trigger on the Mavic Mini. This is my first drone so I think thats a good choice. Will probably upgrade in 6 months or so to the newer Mavics.
