Need Help Removing Oil Cooler
Already Drained Coolant.
Do i have to remove power steering pump to get to the bolt?
Pissing oil from there.
Its a 96 Cobra
Seen some threads about it but im still a little lost.
Also already have the 12mm Hex for the oil fitler thing. Any quick step by step is appreciated!

After you removed the filter, did you turn out the center bolt and remove the cooler? That center bolt/tube comes out with some resistance...there is a center oring on it that is half way down the shaft of it, inside the housing.

I can't see from the pic.

As I recall, once the cooler is off, the adapter bolts are "easier" to access.

There is a complete oil cooler seal ring rebuild kit on ebay. It even has the little center cooler mount bolt/tube seal.

Also make sure you get the correct adapter gasket, that goes against the block, as there is a different one for the Terminator (03-04) Cobra, as well as the GT...again as I can recall.

It's a bitch crawling around under there sometimes.

If you're leaking that much oil, you may need to just tighten that hex stud--or replace the o-ring on the stud, and then torque it down tightly. That stud can get loose after years of loosening tight oil filters. And yes, that's the only thing holding the cooler on, if I remember correctly.

If that doesn't stop the leak, you may have to rebuild the cooler with new internal o-rings. It's not that bad of a job--I'm guessing the posted video will tell you how. I spent more of the time cleaning the core inside the cooler, than anything else.

Edit: Yeah, that video looks okay. The only thing I did differently was using the open end of a small combination wrench, to pry the core out of the housing. If you get the right size, the longer side of the crescent will fit under where he's prying with the screwdriver, and you can work it with a can-opener-like motion. The core unseats in tiny increments, so you just have to keep prying all around that opening until it pops out. Good luck!

Thanks for the replys, im going just take it off and buy that o-ring kit aswell as the gasket, car has 199k miles so cant hurt. Will let you know how it goes once i get everything. I did tighten the hex key but it still leaked, not as bad but i think a refreshing of that piece is a good idea regardless.

Agreed. I think that's best anyhow. Give us an update when it's done, if you can.

Quick Question Is there supposed to be a spring in the radiator hose that connects to the oil cooler? Because there was one in there. Doesnt seem right.

Thank you for this post!!
there is a recent thread where someone has that new hose collapsing and raising engine heat!! Now we know the original has a spring in it!! I link this thread to that thread and pass this info on!! SWEET!!

Leave that Spring in!!!

Alright so update.
Got Everything Taken Off and Rebuilt.
Now the Good News is that it doesnt leak oil anymore.
The bad news is now It Pisses Coolant when you turn the car off. From around the oil cooler.
Also its getting hot, but that could just be it needs to be burped more.
Im assuming the problem is the gasket that i used which was the felpro - 70801
And that would be the wrong one. Im hoping.
