Well car ran perfectly fine before with full bolt ons and subs. But now that I have gone with a return fuel setup the alternator is on its last leg. When I had the car tuned I was told at high rpms cars only seeing 12.2 volts. Fast forward to today It’s only seeing 11.93 at idle and maxed at 12.2 through the rpm range with the subwoofer connected.
So now I need some opinions.
I was thinking about picking up the nations alternator but the price is so steep and people have said that it wasn’t a direct fit and caused shredded belts. Has anyone had recent experience with this alternator.
And second choice is mechman. Haven’t read anything bad about theirs but also there’s not much posts about this alternator.
Also if the big wire kit needed? Or since I’m there I might as well do it anyways?
So anyone with info please chime in.

Kenneth Miley is an excellent choice if you're not looking to spend a ton of money. J2Fab if also very reputable but the prices are higher. Alternators | J2 Fabrication A wire upgrade is recommended with a high output alternator since your factory wires were not designed to carry 200+ amps.

A third option (if you still have your factory alternator) is to take it to a reputable local shop and have it rebuilt. People seem to have much better success with this route than buying remanufactured alternators from an auto parts store.

I have the Kenneth Miley Jr. 200 amp and have been happy with it so far. I got mine on a group buy a while ago for $200 - for the price and what it is, I couldn't justify spending more at the time. I think he offers powdercoating on them now. I priced out having my then-current one rebuilt, and the prices and assumed quality varied a lot. I've heard J2Fab is a good choice, too.

The Kenneth Miley one seems the most reasonable with the best warranty. It said you have to clearance the alternator bracket. What have you guys done to clearance it?

If this in only your first time doing the alternator, I'd say you're sitting pretty. Many of us have gone through several at this point. I'm using a J2Fab now and it's been great. The Powermaster I had was giving up after I added the upgraded wiring for the BAP and a 5-channel amp.

Custom is the way to go. Had a local shop rebuild and upgrade mine to 170A and it's been in there for several years now. Otherwise, it's probably easy enough to put your own 3G kit together. You can also find brand new V-6 105A alternators (which is what the Terminator got) and swap in your pulley and the cable post. Worst case, a lifetime warranty unit that is re-manufactured still means you can swap it out any time it starts to act up.

Some info in these links:

I just installed a nations, battery teminals and did the big 3 wiring upgrade last month. I have an 18k mile stock alternator I intend listing on ebay. Otherwise, I like the nations, regulator is remote. I put it behind the wheel well splash guard. You should upgrade the wiring especially if you have big draw from pumps / stereo..... Nation’s wire upgrade was good.

I just purchased the J2FAb for the same reasons as the OP stated starting to get week, except my stock alternator is reading 13.2 - 13.5 without accessories. I shot them an email in reference to time of delivery and Justin responded immediately? New alt should be in by next week, will post results.

J2Fabrication is one of the best options on the market, we have tons of customers that have seen nothing but great results from their alternators:

Feel free to message me with any questions.

Few questions, I am still on the stock alternator and looking to upgrade to the J2Fab. Would you recommend the 185 amp or 270 for a 2003 Cobra? I am also going to add a 4 lb pulley. Car is pushing over 600hp. I also have a sound system and am looking at ya'lls return fuel system later down the road.
LethalBlake I'm looking to order one soon.

Another dumb question, would I notice a difference from the J2Fab over the stock alternator?

I’m in the market for an alternator for my 03 Cobra. My alternator just died on me two days ago. I’d like some advice on brand and output to get.
