Damn near 124 mph out of a 69 vette. Un friggin believable. I'd give a nut for one of those, or that ZL1 it ran on pass 4.

Great video!!

Nice races but none of these were factory stock...I think the best MPH was 109 back in the day.

Doubtful. The l88 was underrated BIGLY from the factory and it is mostly agreed that they made well over 500hp from the factory.

They ran 11s back in 1969.

There's no way the Olds was stock. Per the supplied specs: 300hp and 3700lbs. Not a recipe for a 12.04.

Not a chance they ran 11's STOCK...The fastest & quickest cars "back in the day was 13.30s @ 109 or so by memory...Hot Rod magazine had large ad and reward for anyone that could ever produce proof a STOCK car got in 12's...NO TAKERS...

454 Chevelle’s ran 12’s stock.
Pretty much any big block Chevy with headers/carb upgrade went into the 11’s

on nylon tires.....

350-400 whp in 3200 lb is <12 sec all day long if you can hook up.

Ronnie Sox ran 12.91 in an A12 Charger that was documented by Super Stock Magazine.

I cannot what magazine it was in but a 455 GS Stage 1 ran 12.99. You will have to google it.

100% stock I don't see that happening. Sure minor tweaks they could but not 100% as delivered by Chevy. They make about the same RWHP as a stock 01 Cobra but better TQ. On stock tires it's not going to 60 foot hard enough to run 12s IMO.

01 cobras make 400+ whp and trap 107+. Crazy.

THese l88 cars made 450+ to the wheels.

The "pure stock" events have guys rebuilding the motors and blueprinting them to exact factory specs (theyre 50 year old cars). They run bottom 11s all day long at 120+. Im guessing some of these videos are form those events.

The factory l88 cam was something like 550 lift and over 300 duration lmao....... BEEF!

From what I can find, the fastest "pure stock" L88 runs 121mph.

"Pure stock" isn't exactly "showroom stock"

I found this quote from a guy who runs the series. These things are absolutely bruts and still fast by today's standards but you'd never be able to get an actual stock car to run these speeds.

corvetteforum said:
PURE STOCK - they do allow the motor to be NHRA blue printed, for example my 71 LS6 came with 9 to 1, they allow me to go to 11 to 1, hence i just did it after the fall race, the other LS6 car goes 11.90's. You must run the stock heads, intake, block, carb (no double pumpers if the car came with a vacumm holley). You can run a 2 1/2 inch exhaust with either an H or X pipe, mandrel is ok, mufflers must be stock appearing and crimped, no flowmasters, dyno max ultra flow is the choice of the vettes, side pipes will kill cost you 3 tenths. You must run the stock transmission, any gear, they run wide ratio muncies and 4.56 gears. The cam must be stock specs, and they say that the crane blue print cam is the best out there. Roller tips are legal, full rollers are not. They loosen the front sway bar, no drag shocks, look at the way the launch. The trick is to use worn out front shocks to get the weight transfer. If a car runs 11.99 or faster, they want to inspect it and then they pump it for stock bore .090 over is max and compression, check spring pressure, No roller cams allowed and put a bore camera down the carb to look for undercut valves and dome pistons (if car had flat tops, it must still have flat tops), no head porting of any kind is allowed, no gasket matching either. The most impressive car to run is JJ's silver L88, as it is a 4 speed and he can shift it like no body else out there, all of the other quick 8 cars are automatics. 3 of the 4 top cars are l88's, with the other one being my buddy Bob K's hemi cuda, no one has run a ZL1 vette as of yet, but dan Jenson told me he would not have a problem allowing one to race. In my opinion, it better be either white or yellow and have the stripe. The top racers in pure stock spend alot of time and money to get these things to run, the others just have the most fun you can have with your clothes on, great group of guys, they hang out on the V8 buick board under the pure stocker boards

For some reason it hasn't thrown up any red flags that the quickest/fastest time run by a stock car 60's car was a 65 cobra 427 (12.20 @ 118) until the early 2000s when this series came out.

The white car in the video could very well be a FAST series car, which allows for internal modification, I guess some of these monsters look completely stock but are knocking on 9s.

You’re shitting me right, my dad had a ton of cars through the years but the two he wished he hadn’t sold were a 426 Cuda and the COPO Camaro he had traded for it. I SAW that car run an 11.6 on bias plys with a 4 speed.

Edit* Video is just an example, the SYC and Baldwin cars were even faster. Iirc, a Baldwin vette ran 11.2 off the trailer as well.

Not factory stock...the ZL1 option in your video was more than the whole car cost...ask your pops if he ever ran 12's in stock trim...Again to all of you, prove it...you're all just bench racing.
