One dead in Canadian Forces Snowbird crash in Kamloops

Very sad news.
They were performing a cross-country tour in support of the healthcare workers.

Absolute tragedy. Another person from nova scotia dead. Terrible year for people of that Provence.
Those planes are old as shit. Isn’t it time to upgrade?

As mentioned, its about time to scrap those 60 year old aircraft for something newer. Especially if you're using them for acrobatic airshow maneuvers. Not a very safe plane in modern standards for anything but flying in a strait line.

Yeah they are the only aerobatics team from North America I have yet to see perform live. Seen the other 2 Thunderbirds, Blue Angles.


looked to be either a flameout, bird ingestation or a compressor stall. both would of been pretty tragic at the altitude that it happened at less than a 1000 feet. If it was 1500 to 2000 then both crew probably would of survived.

There's nothing wrong with flying older aircraft. I have the upmost confidence that these birds are maintained well.
Obviously the crew identified a loss of power and traded airspeed for altitude initiating a climb. This is the proper course of action. I don't want to speculate on the cause or condition of errors, but it's pretty clear that the aircraft had expended its excess kinetic energy (airspeed) and entered a spin right about the point of maximum potential energy (altitude). A spin is the result of an uncoordinated stall condition where one wing reaches the critical angle of attack before the other wing causing the aircraft to wing over and enter a dive. Dropping from the max altitude in a spin, the crew lost precious altitude and had to wait to punch out. Sad day.

Canadian Snowbirds crew member killed after crash

Listen as the the jets fly by, you can hear the "pop" as the compressor stalls on the #2 aircraft. Iirc that's a GE J85 (without afterburner) that's in a T-38. I hear them often from Vance AFB especially as they line up at ICT on 19R/1L.
They have engine issues and you don't have speed/altitude you are screwed.

They immediately climb but stall when about wings level. Either the pilots were fixated on restarting and ran out of time or tried to avoid hitting homes.
Dosen't look like they got a single swing after punching out. They would have been better off ejecting after the climb.
The lady who died was in the left seat, which ejected 2nd. The old webber ejection seat is a zero/zero but needs 60 knots and 60ft wing level to have a chance iirc
