I'm looking to finally get a terminator after many years of having everything else mustang wise. Not really sure why I never got one but I wasn't attracted to the interiors maybe. Anyways I am trying to find out what used cobra's best suit my tastes for fun.
1. A well built 800-1000hp engine and all the other required mods..or
2. A lower mile collector quality with a blower, wheels, and the basics to get it to 650-700hp.

I see a lot of these for sale and most look decent but have tons of mods done to them, that seems great but I'm looking for advice for the basics that this car really needs to support the 650-700hp range. I want this number since the last 5 stangs I've had all had around this number and I was happy. Being unfamiliar with the terminator " must haves " upgrade list, I'm really needing help with that IE ( irs, fuel, safe boost levels, suspension and so on. Can the engine support this range or do I need to look for a fully built motor ?

Thanks in advance
Chris

If this is your first terminator I think you’ll find the torque on these will puta smile on your face even just with a pullied eaton. There’s obviously an easier answer for you - blower, intake, fuel system, subframes, and you’ll want to do at least a little bit for cooling depending on your climate and use for the car. 650 is really easy to hit

650-700 is a lot more enjoyable on the street. As stated above, the torque will throw you back and make you smile with a pullied eaton with with a bigger Twin Screw or something on top with supporting mods, it'll be a fun time but not too much of a handful or pain in the rear to drive on the street.

if you don't plan on racing it, all the horsepower on the street is like a dick measuring contest
a twin screw blower and streetable supporting mods and a GOOD TIRE is all you need for a weekend cruiser

Looked at the car today and it wasn’t what I was expecting. I’m looking for a show car quality paint, interior, and mods if any. That way I can make the car what I want and enjoy on the weekends with my son. I can tell already these cars are far and few in that category. That’s ok it’s the thrill of the chase :)

R888's is the way to go for the street

M&H or M/T are the only way to go with power.

There’s plenty of show quality cobra’s out there. Depends on what you want to spend, and as you suggested how long you’re willing to wait. Watch the market section here. A lot of the cars listed have been shown a lot of love, I found mine here.

They are getting hard to find in show quality no matter the color. I’ve owned them all and my favorite is low mile, tastefully modded. I just bought back the Sonic I wish I never sold, 10,000 miles, 2.2 KB and feel very fortunate to have her back.

With the age of these cars, you will undoubtedly have to put in some work to make them show quality. That’s most of the fun anyway.

I agreed to buy an 03 anniversary edition almost bone stock. He has shown and won awards with the car and the interior looks like new. Thanks for all the input, I’ll post a pic when I get it hopefully in a few weeks.

2.2 KB is a legend

Sub Frame Connectors are a must, should be first mod IMO. Replace the shifter on the T56..a lot of guys like the MGW if you havent already

It is possible to make 650 or 700whp on returnless but the return will be better

Setup for E85 with Fore Return Fuel System or Lethal Performance Return

IF Keeping the IRS you want to get the FTBR IRS Bushing Kit, make sure to get the tools too will make the job much easier
1999-2004 Cobra Suspension Parts and Tools

These mods will save you a lot of headache later

Cooling mods go a long long way to keeping the motor alive, never ever do back to back runs allow it to cool off between runs a at least a few minutes crusing unless you have a 8gal trunk tank. Run a cooler thermostat, upgrade the heat exchanger an tank. I saw 15 degree avg drop running Stewart EMP water pump.

On E85 you should hit 650-700+whp on any of the aftermarket blowers 2.3 or bigger, if you are on 93 I wouldnt expect more than 600-650 on boost only more is possible but why risk it, esp on a stock motor.
