Thanks CobraBob - Tomorrow will be the final test with the Bassani as I removed the tailpipe baffles tonight. I’m interested to see what that does for overall noise. All that said, my couple of day evaluation is that the Borla (or any straight thru bullet muffler) really wants an H-pipe or prochamber versus the x-pipe...especially without cats. I bought the car this way and pretty quickly knew I was going to eventually change up the exhaust.

The Eaton has a Stiegemeier Port, again bought it this way. Whether you like a steggy port or not (I’m not buying or selling), but I will say it does a pretty good job in the higher rpms. Conservative tune, 494hp / 520lb-ft. One day I’ll make the move to a whipple.

I’ll be interested to hear your opinion on the exhaust without baffles. I couldn’t stand the drone when I had the baffles out.

FINALLY “fixed” the “howling”
sound the car made at idle. I had narrowed it down to the snub idler, so I changed the bearing. Sure enough, still making the noise. So I removed the snub idler and bracket, kept the other 3 billetflow idlers in place, and finally the noise has gone away. Contacted BF to see about a replacement, as I’m baffled by what could be causing this sound.

Picked up a set of low mileage DB heads and sent them out for a valve job shave off a few thousand's for a good bite on the head gasket, Replaced a few valves , and all new valve seals.

Got the heads back from the machine shop today.
Looks good.

Next up.
Waiting on a set of new Manley pistons.
Then for the fun stuff!

Looked at the metco lower kit, ugh wish I had some motivation

You're running the stock lower now? Just curious... Saw 21lbs even with the LT's so my gut would normally tell me something like a 3" blower pulley with a 4lb lower. Could just be that I'm not as familiar with the TVS blowers.

Yes I have a 3" upper I'd put on.

Did some street tuning yesterday after some low level fuel system mods. Experienced bucking on decel. Tuner got almost all of it out but it still happens in certain scenarios. Going to clean the MAF, check connections, vacuum lines and coil packs. Tuner is pointing at the mafia I'm using.

I started a thread w more details below. Anyone have any other ideas? I thought the mafias were pretty solid based on the reviews.

That's a tough one to answer.....ask 6 different people here...get 6 different answers.

Here's the bottom line with the Mafia....assuming it is in good functioning condition....you have to ask the opinion of your tuner. Some tuners will tune with them and zero issue, car runs perfect....others hate them and don't want/or are incapable of tuning them. Kind of like some have no issue tuning FMS 80lb injectors....while others throw up their hands and say those injectors are worthless and there's no chance they'll get drivability out of them.

You either stick with your current tuner, dump the mafia, get a BA2600 or whatever....then finish the tune. OR....find a new tuner who has experience with it and track record of it working.

Yea that sounds like best course of action. I'll probably double check all the things, run it for a little bit and if things are ok leave it if not sell the mafia and buy a maf.

For me, in the same flavor as 01yellercobra battery replacement time came and I managed to bust the factory terminal connector. Quick trip to local auto parts store and got it fixed.

If it ain't broke leave it alone. Mod it in the winter.

2004 Cobra 2.9 Whipple
I can't mod in the winter currently. I live in Minnesota and have a non insulated nor heated garage.
