Everyone here is right, the best way to drink it is how you prefer it.

Grab 3 glasses, 3 small pours, one neat, one with a couple drops of water, and one with ice.

For whatever reason I can't do ice. I couldn't ever drink scotch because everyone would serve it to me on the rocks. I have a tough time with too much peat, and I sort of realized if you add ice to it, it mellows out the other flavors and it tastes peat forward. Once I started drinking it straight, it was much easier to enjoy because none of the other flavors were held back.

I have been using the Distiller app on my apple devices, it lets you scan bottles barcodes to pull up reviews as well as store your wish list of new and different things and your entire collection if you want.

Has the standard marketing stuff the the industry puts out about new releases etc in it’s feed as well.

Beneficial when I travel and try and hunt down hard to find and regional whiskey offerings.

If you take two shots of the same scotch, one neat and one with a splash of water, your life will be changed and you'll understand the value of a little water added. Me personally, I like mine on some ice, but that's up to you.

Can anyone recommend me a good bottle of scotch say around $30? Thinking about trying it out.

Bourbon and Irish guy so I can only offer this-you may want to do some research and think about what you drink today and how that plays towards a particular scotch.
And your price point maybe a little low for success.

Get to $50 and I bet opportunities open up, $100 for sure.

Go kill time on Amazon Prime and watch the Scotch, The Golden Dream.....

If it's the cheap stuff I'll pour it over a rock or two. The finer one's I drink neat with a very small splash of water. Mama bought me a bottle of Macallan Rare Cask for father's day last year. Oh my god was that stuff smoooooooth.

U.M.

Laphroaig, 10 year..... YUCK! That stuff is like drinking bog water from a Scottish peat pit.

When I was a kid, the Scotch really only came out for holidays like Thanksgiving & Christmas. That was the only brown liquor in the house.

I currently have:
A bottle of Bowmore- Way more smoke/peaty flavor than I'd prefer. The bottle was a gift.
A bottle of Dalwhinnie 15- Still more smoke/peat than I want. Another gift.
A bottle of Macallan 12- Much more my style for a Scotch.

That said, I hardly touch these. I usually always reach for a bourbon or an Irish whiskey before going for a Scotch.

I don’t enjoy the peaty stuff either...I prefer scotches that aren’t overboard on the peatiness scale. Balvenie 12 year double wood, Cardhu 12, Glengoyne etc....

100000% this. Secret is that they use wine casks to age their whiskey. My God, it's among the finest single malt available.

It's all preference of course, but the Glenlivet consistantly delivers the same experience across multiple bottles across multiple years. The longer aged bottles really are worth the premium from them.

Can anyone tell me what kind of glass this is called. It has 4 slots in the bottom where you could rest your pinky. I had one identical to this, but dropped it. I bought mine at a comsignment/antique store for $1. It was my favorite, and I'd like to replace it.
