So, I have previously installed MGW's and Tri-Axes on my previous Stangs. I tackled the MGW installation on my 2014 Shelby today. I had watched the videos from MGW making it seem not too bad. They also did the worst parts by showing it on a transmission out of the car. Now I know why! What a PITA. The clip on the Driver's side for the shifter arm and the center shifter rod bolt were friggin awful! Then when it came to pas the new shifter into the console area and through the floor.....let's just say it took forever!
Anyways...after having bloody knuckles and cussing my !@# off, it is installed and I really like the feel. No more sloppy side to side when in gear. I haven't banged any gears yet but look forward to it.
Well worth the pain and $$$$$

Its one of my next mods. Let me know how you like it. I will be dropping it off and having someone other than myself install it !

Post some pics.

If those install sections weren't shown on a trans that outside the car you wouldn't be able to see what's going on. Having access to a lift makes a huge difference.

And this is why I always point out how blessed folks are who have a lift in their garage, or access to one (like a friend's).

Let's us know as a follow-up how the new shifter feels on the road.

My car came with a Barton already installed. My last Shelby had an MGW2.
I'm sorta thinking, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And your post reinforces my thought process lol

I didnt think the install was all that bad to do on the floor. It wasn't a breeze by any means, but not overly hard either.
If I wasn't recording the install, it would have went much quicker

I put the MGW in my 2014 last Fall. I do have a lift at my house, I can’t imagine doing this job without one.
I watched the videos MANY t8mes before and during the installation. Having owned muscle cars for over 50 years, this MGW is the best unequivocally! Just a pleasure to shift.

This makes me remember how easy they were to install on the T56's in the 03/04 Cobra. What was it like 4 nuts and its off? LOL
I was just thinking the same thing. Man, what a breeze. I think I removed my shifter about 4 times. The last time it took just over 10 minutes. Talk about easy!

Interesting that Ford spends so much money building a terrific car and use a marginal shifter. Chevy does much the same. In my 67 Corvette I have replaced the stock shifter with a Hurst Competition Plus. Night and day difference.

Blame in large part the bean counters. I agree, though, that factory manual shifters on most most American cars are sub-par. Same with autos, though. When you move up the ladder to the higher cost 2020 GT-500 (and C8 Vette), those DCT autos are excellent.

"Marginal" is putting it mildly. You would think that a car with a base price of $55K, would come from the factory with a quality shifter and not that POS.
Last year at Ford Carlisle, I was talking to the owner of Barton shifters and he said, "If you buy our shifter, we'll do the install for free."
Since Barton was only a 2 hour drive, I thought I'd take him up on his offer.
It took the guy 75 minutes from start to finish to do the install. He had ever tool he'd need on a table and 2 chairs for me and a buddy to sit and watch. Definitely a quality install. I can't say enough about Barton and their shifters. Great people and quality parts, all made in the USA.
The only thing I ask myself is, why the F*** did you wait so long?
Shifting is no longer a chore.

Sloppy OEM shifters have less to do with bean counting and more to do with pleasing the masses; those sloppy shifters have less NVH and less resistance/harshness.

Shifter feel is planned around those who let their little sister drive their car.

Ditto on above!
My car was much easier and pleasure able to drive with the stock shifter. I never really tried to bang gears with the stock one though, but my MGW has fought me the entire way.
