In response to OP.

I was once pulled over for the same thing, I don't remember the exact speeds that were involved as it was long ago. But what happened was, I did not see the reduction in speed sign and thought the cop was just being a dick. I pass him, he pulls me over and basically says WTF, told him I'm pretty sure I was doing the speed limit. He then gave me a pretty sound piece of advice, if you pass a law enforcement officer...your most likely speeding. LOL

This thread is an interesting read. I am enjoying it.

My best car bud is (was) a local cop, then he worked in narcotics with DEA (this organization should be disbanded IMHO) and finally he made Detective. He's one of the finest human beings on the planet IMHO. He was tough as nails when necessary, but otherwise treated civilians with respect and NEVER busted anyone's chops.

When he was duty cop, he took me on many ride alongs, station tours, etc, etc, I got to know a lot of the cops. I wish I could say they were all like my bud, but vast majority of cops that I met seemed to have "us versus them" attitude towards the general population. They viewed civilians as some form of 'enemy'.

I'd truly like to see some laws and regulations reduced or eliminated, maybe that would help both cops & civilians. As with most things in life, there's no easy answer.

Only if you knew how many people agree with this statement.

what about my last response is anything but a clarification?

Sorry, I meant to quote this one.

incorrect. the FACTS are cut and dry. the facts I stated are obvious. the argument from ignorance of "well we don't know exactly why..." is just a fallacious attempt to detract from the things we KNOW:

1. montana had half the deaths of national average
2. montana implements these speed limits
3. montana's death rate GROWS to meet the national average
4. montana repeals these speed limits
5. montana's death rate DROPS to half the national average
6. montana re-implements these speed limits
7. montana's death rate GROWS to meet the national average

this raises obvious questions of WHY which psychology and sociology have viable answers for.

the entire situation makes sense and yet the argument i often hear in response is "well there are usually other factors" which misses the point entirely. what makes this situation unique is it was an accidental controlled study (as much as anything can be controlled) that provided substantial evidence that speed limits kill.

I disagree with cut and dry. From ‘94-‘99 laws didn’t change, and yet the fluctuation of deaths within that period were about the same as the low of no speed law and to the high of speed limits. There obviously will be fluctuations in numbers throughout time periods. I attached the chart from the article and stayed with its color code. On the chart, green was used to show a the low number of deaths that occurred without speed limits and red was used to show the high numbers with a speed limit. I used green to circle the similar number at occurred in ‘95 and ‘99, which occurred before with different rules. I circled in red where similar numbers occurred in ’97 before a speed limit. How can we say this is cut and dry when similar numbers happened before?

I had an asshole cop pull me over once because he was riding my ass so close I couldn't even see the front of his car in my mirror. I was dead on the speed limit and the light ahead turned yellow, I easily made it through, but he pulled me over for not slamming on the brakes with him right on my bumper.

ive learned this: NEVER be a smart ass with a cop. the more courteous you are, the more likely they will let you go unscathed. if you are dick, 100% you will be getting a ticket.

But wait you're missing the point! He comes from a family of civil servants and thinks he should have a free pass life because of who he knows... TFB... I suppose it should work for this guy too?

I've had similar experiences of passing cops, both good and bad.

Most recent was during a snow storm. I was cruising along between 65 and 70 in a 70 zone. Snow was coming down pretty good and there was decent snow/slush on the road. Cop Explorer was in the right lane, white knuckling it at around 40. Cruised right by him without incident. The way he looked, he thought he was about to fly off the road and die at any moment.

Squeezed out with help from the svtperformance.com mobile app

That was an interesting video to say the least. The arresting cop was about as courteous as I've ever seen. I won't make any other comments on this one since the one arrested was not a civilian.

Interesting, most handbooks say to stop, but only if it's safe to do so. That situation obviously wasn't safe. Seems the officer was trying to run your plates or something and took your yellow light shenanigans as an "attempt" to get away somehow.
