I have a 2011 GT500 PP with navigation. No subwoofer. Is this audio system considered a Shaker 500? What size are my front and rear speakers. Looking to upgrade my audio. I did a search, but its alittle confusing. Thanks.

You could just pop them out and look at 'em. Shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. I know in the '07-'09s the nav option was only available with the Shaker 500.
Should be on your on your window sticker. Do you still have it? If not i believe some members can get it for you.
I think they are all shaker based are they not?
If no subs in trunk, it is a shaker 500. The 1000 adds another amp and subs in the trunk

Ah, I didn't know there was a sub and speaker in the door.
If you look at your door, you should have a large grill down by your leg that is probably 8" in diameter that is external of the door. You will also have an internally perforated grill up top of the door like right in front of the handle about steering wheel level.
The bottom one is your sub and the top one is your full range speaker
Yes I just noticed that...thanks...now I have to decide what speakers. The Shelby kickers are an easy choice. What else is everyone using?
The kickers are pretty common upgrade for the door subs. If you do those I would try and do the matching full ranges as well.
I hear people say they are a night and day difference for the door subs, but I really wonder. I don't think those are quite as bad as the full ranges. I think those blow pretty easily.
I haven't looked at mine yet, but my bet is they are the same BS paper woofer ford has always used. I would hope the 8"'ers are some sort of poly carb or some sort to handle the bass extension, but these are guesses. I have yet to see anyone post pics of the stock speakers in these to confirm what the Shaker speakers look like
I found pics and confirmed the Shaker stuff is the same paper junk they used in all their cars for decades. . . . atleast the full range speakers.
That being said, Kicker/Infinity Kappa/Pioneer are all great options. Pretty much anything with a composite woofer and butyl surround and dedicated tweeter will be a BILLION times better than the junk paper cone/foam/paper surround drivers they come with

I like the Kickers because it's PnP option. Just curious if anything better out there cheaper than the Kickers. I've used Focal speakers before and they are phenomenal.
Plug and play? I mean we are talking about a positive and a negative wire. lol.
From what I remember of Focal from many many years ago, to what Kicker is today, Focal was a much higher quality driver but that came with a higher price tag too.
Once Kicker started getting sold at big box stores, the prestige is not quite the same as what it was in the 90's early 2000's
That being said, literally anything would be better than the stock paper driver speakers. Just make sure the impedance is correct and the mounts allow them to fit and rock and roll.
Your head unit powers (2) 6x8 coaxial speakers up front and (2) 6x8 full range speakers in the rear, all 4 ohm. Good replacements are easy to come by.
Your front <2 ohm 8" dual voice coil shallow mount door subwoofers each have their own 2-channel amplifier, rated @ 2 ohms. Impedance matching will be a challenge and good luck finding a good replacement speaker with the same specs. (Note: the 8" subwoofer magnets are bolted inside the door panel, so you can't just unscrew and remove them without removing the entire door panel)
If I felt like tinkering with the sound system, I would go full custom: 5-1/4 component plates in place of the front 6x8 coaxials, 6-1/2" mid/subwoofers in place of the 8" door subwoofers, and quality 6x8 coaxials in the rear, all driven by 1 or 2 quality amps. For now, I am content with my Shaker 1000 listening to tunes at 3/4 volume when I want to rock out... but most of the time, I am listening to my Whipple whine or exhaust note from my Borlas.

I agree, overall I am pretty content with my shaker1000. My door full range has taken some abuse on the pass side and making some sounds I don’t like so I will be replacing with coaxials one of these days, but otherwise I am content.
