The dealership has inquired with Ford and I have the option of getting the hood and fenders redone at a local shop. The weather here is terrible and the car hasn't been abler to be moved be moved, I'm waiting till later this week to transfer it to the body shop. Yes I could refuse and screw the dealership over but they have been very good to me and I can't really drive the car yet. I will be meeting with the body shop to make sure the process is to a certain standard.

I had a 95 Cobra that had paint issues with a light blue over spray under the clear but on top of the base black color. Ford looked at it and determined it was their fault and it was a warranty issue. After asking they admitted it would be covered under the base 3/36 warranty. I got in writing this would be covered. I drove the car about 2.5 years and then got the paint done. Not sure if you might want to pursue something like that to help with future road rash if you are going to drive it.

just out of curiosity, how would the dealer get screwed if this is a warranty / delivery issue from Ford?

Considering the price etc., that's unacceptable. Just remember its never the same after its been painted. Those are not just "touch up " spots. Bubbling etc and those other spots have to be completely sanded down and repainted and also blended to show no imperfections. Can be done, but has to be done right, since your going to get only one shot at it. Think about it, painting a brand new car in spots already, would make me have sleepless nights.

So you’ll have a Carfax with paintwork now? That sucks on a new car.

Yep. I'd raise hell with my dealer and Ford for diminished value now, especially if you paid an ADM.

If you ever try to sell it you will lose some money there

Exactly. It will be sanded and prepped just as if it had been in an accident. That's a lot of paint work and it won't match at different angles from texture to color..that would annoy the heck out of me.

If I walk. Dumping the car just isn't good business and it's not the dealers fault.

I think Id push for new hood and fenders and have them painted perfectly. This could be done without ever showing up on a carfax. Itd be OEM parts too, just like whats on the car only painted correct either by a Ford body shop or independent shop that can do quality work.

this is just my 2 cents, but OP, you're thinking about this too much in my opinion. You bought a brand new car. What you received is tarnished. You are NOT obligated to buy it. It's not bad business for anyone but ford. You're being too emotional over it. I would never spend 80k+ to have to turn around and hand the car to a body/paint shop. If it isn't absolutely pristine from the paint shop you're going to forever regret the decision not to hand it back to them and wait until they can hand you a pristine car.

A GOOD shop can fix that no problem.

Walking to get another car seems risky, may get one with similar issues, may not get one for a long time, given shut downs etc.
