J&S Vampire/MDR Lean Protection Module in glove box

I need to install both the J&S Vampire and MD Racing Lean Protection Module in my cobra. I'm on E85 now, but want to do a 91 octane tune for travel. I'm thinking about putting both of these in my glove box, however, I'm sure I'm not the first.

Does anyone have photos of their mounting locations?

I don't have any pictures, but my vampire is under the passenger seat pinned to the carpet. I drove around without the seat while tuning it in. I extended the small red activation bulb out of the vampire and into a small hole drilled in the dash, It flashes when there is detonation and timing modification.

Ok, I'm starting to like the idea of under the seat. Do you run a lean protection module as well?

Thanks for the photos. I like where you put the LED. My shift light is blue and in the vent. I'll likely put this LED in there with it.

I did the same thing under the pass seat but I run the combo gauge.

I like the light placement, obvious when it comes on but pretty well hidden outside of that

You're likely correct, but I feel better having both.

Your thread is awesome BTW! I appreciate the pictures and the step by step on set up. I'll install mine where you did. I'm currently rebuilding my deck, as soon as that gets finished I can get back to working on the car and the safeguards installed.

Under the passenger's seat is a great spot. I've seen them in the glove boxes and while it works well they're no longer functional for anything else. I've also seen several installs in the passenger foot area up higher in the back agains the bottom of the dash or towards the center console but in the foot area. I don't like those as much as its more exposed.

No doubt, after this thread I'll be putting them under the passengers seat.

I know the lean protection module is your baby, but seeing as how you don't produce it anymore, what are your thoughts on the benefits of both vs. just the vampire?

Well they do two different things. The Vampire is going to save you from poor octane and detonation. The lean protection module is going to protect you from going lean and destroying your engine. Detonation and Lean conditions. Both bad. I wouldn't want to be without either.

I still get inquires all these years later to purchase those modules. I've considered starting it up again and building a version 2.0 that's cheaper and a little more feature rich. I'd scrap the fancy powder coated enclosures with screen printing and likely use plastic cases to keep costs down.
I actually build a variety of electronics for cars. I've built boost controllers, turbo timers, water / meth injection controllers, variable fan speed controllers, data logging equipment etc. etc. So I toy with the idea from time to time about bringing them to market and selling again. It's a huge time investment though for design, R&D, production, and of course customer support.

I got my Lean protection module and Vampire wired up this weekend. While I forgot to take a photo before the seat went in, this location seems great, there is even a little trough for them to sit coiled up when not in use. I may put some male Velcro on the bottom is them to keep them from moving.

this makes the vampire gauge look crooked, it’s just perspective. But you can see the LED for the Lean Protection Module, set it at 11.8.

also, JR your pin map and wire color chart where extremely helpful! I solder all my connections so having that under the dash with me helped to make quick work of the vampire install. Thank you!

Yes definitely secure those modules so they're not loosely flopping around. Looks nice and clean.

Did you 3D print that dash vent? If so you should be able to get a much cleaner print with some tweaking of the printer settings.

I didn't print it, I don't have that skill set. I picked it up on Ebay for $25.00. I would love to find a nicer one, I thought about trying to fill it and sand it, but quickly lost motivation with all the thin parts.

Ah ok, still pretty cool.

I ordered a second one off eBay, I'm going to try an acetone vapor bath first, then I may use a little butane torch heat and finally a sand and paint. I actually love the location, but the rough print looks like piss against my Carbon Driven interior.
