Seems like the IR unit is a bit under-built.

Just checked CL. There just happens to be a Quincy QT54 for sale on there. Claims low hours and looks pretty new. I've sent an email.

If you’re able to get it, take the money you saved and put it towards maintenance and a good filtration setup.

It looks like the bigger compressors have them but if anyone has a smaller compressor, this made draining the water out of it a lot easier. Pay no attention to the cobwebs...

If everything goes as planned, I should pick up this new compressor on Wednesday. Quincy QT-54. Pump rpm is 1310 and is rated at 50,000 hours! Now I just need to get a 50 amp breaker installed.

Cool man, should last you a lifetime and then some. What did you end up getting it for if you don’t mind me asking?

$1000 is what it's listed for. It is craigslist, so I don't want to count my chickens quite yet. He said it had 20 hours on it.

Not a bad price at all if it’s mint. Hope it works out for you.

Just brought it home today.

When I went to look at it, the owner fired it up and it went from 0 psi to 175 real quick, ~ 5 to 6 minutes. I'm going to like this.

Thanks to everyone that offered opinion and experience.View attachment 1631600
Congrats OP! Well, when its time to upgrade my Harbor Freight unit, looks like it will be between Quincy and IR. Great thread!

Y’all going to hard pipe the air lines in?

That is probably going to happen. Being that I'm still in the construction phase of the house, it will just be soft lines for now.

And that brings up another question. Does anyone have a preference on a regulator and water trap that they use? I'm also thinking of adding a desiccant system also, keeping in mind that I'll eventually want to paint with this.

Got a Grainger nearby? Parker & Wilkerson I know are USA made. I think Aro is from S Korea. You also have SpeedAire (Grainger’s house brand) and I think they are made in China mostly but honestly I’ve never had a problem with anything used from them.

Yes. I'll stick with the Parker & Wilkerson. China is not agreeing with me lately. (or ever, really)

We use Parker mostly at work, solid no frills equipment that is in service 24/7. Just be sure to look at the filtration and cfm specs when buying to make sure it will cover your needs.

Meant to ask, how did you feel about how loud it is when running?

I was hoping for a little quieter to be honest. Some of the others were rated at a lower db than this one, but I think the difference is negligible.

I ran copper lines for mine, soldered the connections. Ran bell reducers, down to air pull down hose reels. Found it helpful to put a chuck next to the work bench too. Ran a pig tail retractable hose. Never know when you need pneumatic help on the bench! Or a good air spray nozzle.

You"re in Washington? Right? I live in Carnation.

Used to do maintenance at a carwash chain, we used the speedaire dryer/regulator setups, probably 150 of them total at all the locations.

Over 5 years of constant use I think I replaced only a few of them.
