In 2008 the LS3 came (manual trans only!) and somewhat leveled the playing field with the older c5z in performance. The c6 is a more refined, less raw car than the c5z.

This isn't even close to being true the LS-3 had the same HP and torque numbers for both the 6 speed manual and 6 speed paddle shifter auto at 430. but if you ended up ordering the NPP/ dual mode exhaust then it added another 6 hp to 436HP from GM officially.

LS3’s love mods. Cam and exhaust and you are looking 500HP.

Add boost and the sky’s the limit.

My only comment on the C6 as a platform is the corvette tax, I.e., parts are expensive.

Why not? still a bad ass machine and the miles are right. Looks clean AF.

The c5z was a BEAST in its day (still is) and took down Terminators all day long and twice on Sunday.

Lol, man i remember pulling away from those zo6 on a regular back in the day in my terminator.

One big issue with the C5z was hydraulic clutch lock out. They had the same issue as the 11-14 5.0. They needed there hydraulic fluid changed regularly. Now if you drove it like most owners did when bought brand new then they were all old white men that never got there foot in it to know the difference.

Yes, about 35 more HP, but only if you buy a manual after 2008. The LS2 in the c6 (05-07) was a turd IMO and the 01-04 z06 ran harder. This is a fact.

The c5z came with all sorts of VERY trick shit at the time. Fiberglass or carbon fiber fenders ( i dont remember which), the wheels were magnesium and specfic to the c5z, a lighter battery, aluminum pedals, sodium filled valves, Ti exhaust, thinner glass, reduced sound proofing, .. etc etc. The LS6 engine was specific to the c5z. The whole car only weighed 3100 lbs!

In summary... its a bad ass mofo lol.
do you know how much power the c5z can handle on stock pistons? how about 7 psi on twins

Uses brake fluid. Those vetts had separate reservoirs for brake fluid and clutch. But the clutch reservoir is too small and gets too hot causing the lock out in aggressive use. Track, backroads, Mexico runs.

Heat exhanger and K&N intake, mid pipe, cat back. I was pulling away from equal modded z06 with ease. The 03/04 z06 at least had a little more power but still 60-140 was eating them up.

Your mom
Find a C5 fixed roof coupe (no targa). Basically, the Z06 body with base vette suspension, engine, etc. Extremely rare.

The C5Z had much lower production numbers compared to the later generations and as pointed out, had some really cool features. Titanium exhaust, thinner glass, etc.

02-04 had the same power which was 20 more than the 01 if i remember correctly. Head/Cam cars were NASTY AF!

This is easily fixed with Tick performance master cylinder, put one in my C5Z and never had another problem. Quite a few hydraulic setups suffer from this and in many cases the factory master isn't up to the task. However regarding the mustang it has more to do with the shitty clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. I replaced those with a twin disk and haven't had shifting issues since.

That was the game changer was adding heads, cam and long tubes with tuning those z06 became fast. Thats when you need the whipple and KB to play.
