Alright SVTP, I'm hoping someone here might be able to make some sense of this noise that I heard in my house. Thankfully, our baby monitor records when it picks up audio, so I was able to get it on film.

Background:
  • I've been in my house 6 years and just heard this noise the first time in January of this year. After this, radio silence. However, I heard it again last night, but this time it wasn't the whole sound, but rather a quick blip.
  • To the best of my knowledge, there isn't anything in my house that is even capable of this noise
  • I do not believe my house is haunted, but after this it could be.

Audio clip (sound at 9 seconds):

Any ideas?

My first thought was smoke alarm or CO2, but both are high pitch beeps. This one sounds like a damn nuclear bomb alarm.

Do you have washer or dryer with that type of buzzer?

If not, something could be intermittently getting caught in the blower of your HVAC unit, fridge compressor going bad, etc.

I had a crap microwave which would make a sound just like that due to faulty magnetron before it died.

Sounds like the intro to an emergency broadcast, got any weather warning devices in the house??? Usually seen them in alarm clock radios but house alarms can have it as well as apps loaded onto smart devices.

Interesting thoughts - The only thing i've noticed about both times is that the heater has been on around the time. So, i'm wondering if HVAC is to blame here.

Oh, youre def haunted there OP. Time to move.

I would get an Ouija board to see if a spirit is trying to talk to you.

I have been looking for an excuse to leave California...

Nope, nothing of the sort, but I do agree that it sounds like the emergency broadcast signal.

it sounds like an electrical contactor that isn't pulling in all the way and then it finally does. it could be your blower fan or AC compressor.

Heater was more than likely running around the same timeframe. Good news is that we are replacing the heater and installing an AC unit next week, so hopefully that fixes it.

I agree. It sounds like the start of the emergency broadcast.

Our septic alarm makes that exact noise, but continuously. Goes off every time the power goes out until I go manually reset it.

Do you have a sump pump? Our old house had one with a battery back up, the battery eventually failed and the alarm made a random beep. Took me a bit to pinpoint what it was.

We had a problem with the hot and cold water pipes (copper) in the old house, and once in a while they would vibrate.

In one area, the hot water pipe would vibrate on the return duct to the furnace, and make a noise like what you have, kinda.

Or, could be a vibrator in the sock drawer.

Do you want him to sign his death warrant? That sounds like a spirit of some sort manifesting through an electric powered device. In other words, you are screwed!

Sounds like a device of some kind giving a warning (not full alarm) signal. My house has gas detectors, CO detectors, smoke detectors, etc, so they all make warning noises... usually when low battery or some other trouble. Most of these devices have little LED lights on them that will flash to indicate an issue of some sort. So I would look around at the devices and see if one is flashing.... usually one or two flashes every 30 or 60 seconds, something like that.

Guaranteed it is an alert of some type, likely for a low battery. Problem is, it doesn't repeat frequently enough where you can move around the house to try to pinpoint the source. I'd scour the house first for any devices that use batteries and that emit a beep/alert when the battery is low. Some devices have a test button that you can press to sound the same beep alert. If it is battery related, my experience is that some devices initially emit a beep alert with longer periods of time between beep alerts, and then as the battery gets weaker start the device will start to emit the alerts more frequently. That's when it becomes easier to find the source. The last time I had an alert beep it took me at least two days to find the source, because my ear seemed to place the source from different locations in our downstairs kitchen/family room/hallway.
