RC cars are a ton of fun! I’ve been racing for almost 10 years now. I highly recommend checking out a local track.

Ryan Lutz is one of the best professional drivers in the world.

Post some pics plz

OOF....my forte! I have been in the R/C hobby for 20ish years.

My current fleet:
SMT-10 Sport Mod class monster truck
2x retro class Clodbusters
Traxxas Slash 4x4 mod class SCT
Traxxas Slash 2wd mod class SCT
HPI Blitz 2wd mod class SCT
Team Redcat/OFNA SCRT-10 4wd Mod Class SCT
Tamiya TL01 silver can stock class TCS car
3x Tamiya TA02's - 1 stock, 1 HPI graphite and 1 full carbon build
Tamiya M03R mod mini class car
Tamita M05 mod mini class car
Tamiya M06 stock mini class car
Kyosho Blizzard Snow Cat
Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin Chrome Edition(for my son)
Traxxas Stampede VXL
Traxxas Stampede 4x4 mod 4wd truggy build -built this before the truggy craze came about...now its just outclassed by the buggy based trucks.
Tamiya TL01B - mud truck build
HPI Sport 2 touring car - dust collector and trying to get rid of this. terribly unreliable belt driven touring car.
Traxxas Bandit - speed run buggy - 78mph so far but having trouble keeping the front down. its basically stock with a 3s powered castle creations system. going to go full bore with a Factory Works drag chassis when i get time to build it up. Then swap in a 4s system and shoot for 100mph.

My past stuff:
more than i have the space the type out. Everything from TLR, Associated, Traxxas, Tamiya, Serpent....etc.etc.etc. I have a whole hard drive of pictures of my past builds that would take days to go through.

Im sure im missing others. Been a collector and racer for a really long time. My local track has been around since the early 90's and features a good amount of nationals races. We just got the Jconcepts monster truck event coming December 7-8th if anyone is interested. I may enter my retro class trucks if i have the free time to get over there.

I dont have as much time lately as i did before my son was born. I still try to make it once every two to three months to race. Its a great hobby but extremely expensive.

Just converted my Slash 4x4 mod class SCTinto a 1/8 E-Buggy Lite since i have been using my other 4wd SCT for racing. This will be just a fun little track ripper for practice days.

Its a 4x4 Slash Platinum. STRC 1/8 buggy conversion kit. STRC 17mm wheel adapters. James Racing premounts. Hobbyking 1/8 buggy hard wing. Power is a 4.5T 550 size Trackstar sensored w/ a 150a Trackstar ESC. Savox 1258 servo. Traxxas center diff, GTR shocks and sway bars. You can see all the springs on the left of the buggy.

I am still figuring out droop, spring rate and oil for it. Need to spend some time and see what works. Right now it has too much rate up front and too little rate in the rear. It also needs more front droop as the GTR front shocks are very limited.

Also need to paint the body.

What would be a good starter for my 10 year old and I? I've driven them before, but it was a long time ago. He's never had a real rc car and has expressed interest in them. I wanted to get him one for his birthday which is the same month as mine and make it for both of us to justify the cost.

Thanks

I really enjoy my Mini E-Revo. Traxxas is very hard to beat as a casual basher, unless things have changed drastically the last few years. I upgraded it to 3s LiPo and brushless and it is ridiculously fast and fun. Do spend a few more bucks on a quality charger and spare batteries. Best thing about modern electric is the long run time and quick charging.

Do you want to build a kit with him or just buy and go(ready to run)?

Is he responsible enough to run a brushless equipped truck? They can be dangerous in the hands of a irresponsible person. Think of a 35-60mph missle that can easily break an ankle or leg.

If he is responsible enough I’d start with something like a Traxxas Stampede or Arrma Granite. It’s a simple, cheap and easy to maintain 2wd monster truck and both are easily
upgradeable. 30-35mph out of the box for the brushed versions on a 2 cell LiPo battery. They start around $150 and go up from there. They are both Ready to Run out of the box and you can get them brushed or brushless.

I wish I enjoyed something inexpensive, like knitting or something.

Friday I purchased a Traxxas XO-1 RC car. 100mph out of the box. It's a blast. I went through a set of tires on Saturday sliding across the asphalt and doing some controlled drifting.

Today I bought a Traxxas Ultimate Desert Racer, hopefully it's here in the next couple of days! I figured a 4x4 would be a little more fun as it can actually go in the grass/dirt/snow/etc.

I'll get some actual video in the coming weeks.

Who else has played in the electric RC game?

I’ve been thinking about the UDR ever since this thread. How do you like it?

I love this. So glad companies are bringing stuff out to keep the SCT trucks going even though its in a different form. I was a HUGE 2wd/4wd SCT fan and i loved the racing. The buggy/stadium truck racing is so boring so SCT was a huge departure from that. Its died down quite a bit but some of us still try to keep it going.

The top speed/drag racing thing has exploded recently. Guys going 140+mph in a Slash is nuts.

Grabbed myself a nice crawler 2 weeks ago. Been eyeing the trx4 bronco since I came out, and I finally pulled the trigger. Been a lot of fun just ripping this around the yard. Cant wait to hit the coast and crawl around. Threw a few mods at it already too. Lights, the big steering servo, and a 3s setup.
