Hey everybody, this is my first post on the forums, so I hope its in the correct place.
I'm in the midst of building a Teksid 4v to swap into my v6 new edge. Ive been giving myself a headache over what intake and heads to use on my engine. I currently have two sets of B heads and a 96-98 cobra intake. I also just bought a 99-01 cobra intake that I wanted to use instead. I know the 01 intake wont fit the B heads without adapter plates. I would like to be able to rev to around 7500 with this engine. Does anyone have suggestions for short runner modifications for the 99-01 intakes? Are there any tricks to making power higher than 6200rpms on the 99-01 intakes?
Pictures would be awesome!

The stock intakes all make power past 6200 RPM, that's one of the benefits of a 4V. Factory redline is 6800. You can get intakes modded into short runners by certain members on here, just search it. Its like $1200 just FYI and you will want to run 4.30s or higher out back. I'm installing 4.30s on my car with a stock engine tbth, the low end is that bad but the high end is that great. I spin my stock JY 99/01 engine to 7200 regularly. And the 99/01/Mach intake won't fit the B heads even with adapter plates, you can get an adapter plate to run the 96-98 Cobra upper intake on the 99-up lower intake which needs to be on C heads.

If you aren't going to be running boost, my suggestion is get a lower mileage running C headed 4V out of a junkyard, drop it in and go. 03-05 Aviators are prime candidates, swap on the Mustang cover/accessories/intake and roll. You don't need to do a built motor for NA. A real 99/01 Cobra or Mach motor will obviously work as well.

All they dyno sheets Ive looked at for the 96-98 cobras and 99-01 cobras seem to drop off in power around 6200rpm. Does your car feel like its making power above there? I can weld and have seen several PSR intakes but with no results on how they made power.

Price Motorsports makes adapter plates to run a C head intake on B heads. There are a few people running Sullivan intakes on B heads with great success. As of now I'm planning to use a Sullivan intake with a carburetor on my B heads and eventually upgrade to 03 cobra heads.

Cams and tuning are the reason for drop in power. All 4v want to rev.

MS3 Pro makes standalone a great option for a lot of us, especially if youre gonna run e85 and need big injectors
Ive been looking at the MS systems for a while and their plug and play setup has great reviews, but it falls into the same price range as a Holley Terminator X standalone. In the import tuner world the DIY MS systems aren't recommended because of the difficulty in getting base maps and tuning.
My idea for right now is to either use the terminator X from Holley or a Sniper EFI carb setup with a Sullivan intake.

The 4v heads and intakes only got better each year with 03-04 being the best. Any of the intakes can be made into a short runner, but the cost effectiveness isn't really there unless it's a max effort, grudge racing for money sort of deal and you don't care if it makes the car a dog on the street. Not many of the people who do port work will give up their secrets on how to make power and not lose it while trying to port correctly. Proprietary information, if you will. If you want more pull above 6k and aren't ready to boost, you need to look at cams that are designed for that and match them with headers. But like intakes that are made for that sort of rpm, the performance down low will not be enhanced. Give to get. If you want the best of both worlds, you just need to boost. 4v and boost are totally made for one another.

I plan to boost eventually. Im a college student so building a 4v in general is quite the financial undertaking at the moment, especially a boosted one.

The Holley is a fairly new set up. So I don't know about the price point. I do know the MS3 set up was cheaper than the other systems when I was looking.

There are plenty of base tunes for Mustangs now. Not that my base tune stayed that way for long.

Unless you're going really crazy the stock ECU will do pretty decent. I made over 600 on my stock 01 computer. And if you're not going to boost it any time soon a stand alone is a waste of money at this point.

I’ll be close to 800 on my stock mach ecu. I’m looking at ms3 pro for flex fuel and traction control. Don’t forget the ms3 doesn’t require running any new harnesses and works with the factory cluster. I’m not sure about the others using the stock cluster which is $$$ if not

Those are three of the reasons I switched to MS3. I'm also running a knock sensor, but I'm still dialing that in. Honestly, if I had gone with something other than the ID1050 injectors I might've stayed with the stock ECU for a while longer. I just wasn't a fan of the tricks I needed to do to get them to work with the stock ECU.
