Vmp 2.3 vs Eaton plus pulley and tune

When I purchased my car, it had a stock Eaton but with a 2.76 pulley and made 470 rwhp. It was a fun car and sounded awesome. The Eaton screamed on that pulley. I did a VMP 2.3 blower swap within a year. On a 3.0 pulley my car made 15 PSI (same as the Eaton) and put down 560 rwhp 550tq on the same dyno. I dyno the Eaton in February and the VMP in July so there was a big difference in temp and humidity.

The VMP set up at that time was GT500 TB, 3.0 pulley, 60 lbs injectors, VMP 3000 MAF, and a VMP boost a pump.

You will need a good tire, or you will just spin. If you don’t have your bushing upgraded, a good tire will also help with wheel hop. What are you goal with your car? I would get the VMP and put a dinner plate pulley on it. When your are ready for more, pulley down for more boost.
Thanks for the reply, I think you did it right. You got to enjoy both the eaton pullied and then moved onto the VMP. I will probably do this just cause I want to for the experience of it. I know it will cost more in the end but im ok with that.

My car is still an un-ported, upper only car. Been that way since 2007. I'm happy with that. I have not had to look for a cobra for a long time. They say it's hard to find a car that hasn't been fooled with. Everyone wants a grandma driven car, so THEY can fool around with it, then, turn around and say "there are no clean cobras around anymore" But it's still cool to see some cars still running the factory unit. Like you said, enjoy the upper, then move on if you want.

My car is an upper only with full Bassani exhaust from midlength headers back. It's not going to be driven on the track and has more than enough power for the street. The Eaton sounds magical when boost kicks in. Best of all the tune is safe and spot on, which is one thing I wouldn't want to mess with. It's fast safe and reliable, and I'm happy with that.

Good luck with whatever decision you make. It will be loads of fun regardless!

Just slap on the TVS, enjoy and don’t look back. You’re wasting your time going the pulley/porting route if you own the TVS already, ask me how I know.

This.

Wouldn't hurt to jump straight to the E85 setup as well, have the pump gas tune as the backup. The 2.3 blowers, spun 20+, on ethanol.....that's truly the sweetspot for these cars. The motor, trans can absolutely handle it longterm unless you drag race or half mile it repeatedly. Street driver highly reliable @ 700. You would need some upgrades like clutch, input shaft...etc....but this combo has been tried n true for years now. That's really what created the legend for these cars....double factory HP/TQ....still lives long life.

lol Of course! Although you've got me thinking about it lately.

OP - You could always drop the VMP and the supporting gear on it with a huge pulley. Make 450-475whp like you would with the Eaton. Then you get the feel, but are only a pulley swap and a tune away from giving her the beans.

I was afraid of the car for a while after the KB went on which is probably a good thing. Jumped from 457whp to north of 600. First time I sucked it up and laid into her, it was night and day. Peeled my eyelids back, adrenaline skyrocketed, soiled undergarments...you get the idea.

I bought it used with less than a thousand miles on the setup I was told. Looks like in new condition to me. Gona pulley and tune it first. Thanks for all the replies.

You can always pull it and send it to stegmaier as well, I think its right around 1k for their "stage 8" port job. Just dont ask me what comes before "stage 7" though.
