Built SRA or IRS?

Hey Bs and Gs,

Once again the corona seems to be affecting my car again lollll. For real, not so crazy this time. I’m pretty sure I burned up the clutch packs in the LSD due to the car making a scraping/rubbing noise from the diff only when turning. If it’s not just that then god help me lol.

That leads to the question, do I build my SRA now that it’s in the car and then build the IRS I have out of the car to swap? I don’t plan to really track/drag the car (thank you Jacksonville for having no tracks) so I’m leaning towards the IRS ultimately.

The big factor is cost in the two. If I just fix the clutch pack and get a rear diff cover it’s around 3 hundo. A built 8.8 or upgrade is basically the cost of beefy IRS axles. Part of me says “por que no los dos?” IRS to party on the street and then SRA if I did want to track it or know I’m running someone in a straight line.

If anyone has input it’s always welcome. Been a fun journey with you folks over the past few years

The real question is, what do you want the car for? You wanna add lots of power and go fast. Then SRA.

You wanna make decent power and turn hard built IRS.

What’s the best way to check a wheel bearing on an SRA?
When that happened to my sons car once we got the brakes off the amount of play in the bearing was pretty obvious. It ended up putting a groove in the axle as well.

If the car is street/strip stick with the SRA. If it's a cruiser/canyon carver go IRS.

I’ll pop it in the air and take off the brakes to see what’s going on. Do I just wiggle it and check there? Just checking if there is anything notable to look for.

I guess my real question is, how much power can fully built IRS really handle? Or will a SRA always be a little stronger/better for a straight line?

Yep. If it moves at all then the bearing is toast. There shouldn't be any play back and forth.

Friend of mine put 800hp through his IRS and took it to the strip quite a bit.

I’ll jack it up after work and pop off the brakes and tires to examine.

Was his stock or upgraded?

Its possible to make 700-800hp on a built IRS. But if drag and Mexico racing are your interest then SRA.

All of the FTBR bushings, heavy duty toe links, and the pro level DSS half shafts. The only thing I'm missing is the upgraded half shafts.
