I have been following this site for several months while waiting for my dealer to get his second allocation. Ordered on 02/11 and just received my VIN - 2069 - with a build date of 03/30! You guys have been a real pleasure to follow and learn from. I had a 2012 GT500, then on to assorted other modded cars. All have been run at The Texas Mile, where this one will run after some light mods. Any one here that has run The Mile with a recent GT500, please let me know what mods you did, as I am several years behind the curve on Shelbys.
Would like to say a nice word about my dealer, Glen Polk Ford in Gainesville, TX and Sean Polk, who tolerated my ceaseless badgering until he got the allocation. Sold at sticker, which says a lot about Sean.
Thanks to all for having a great site. Dick

Wow, wow, wow. That was extremely fast considering some ordered half a year ago and are still waiting for a VIN. Great to hear you had a positive dealer experience as that makes all the difference in the world.

So this is for a Base car, yes?

Yes, sorry for omitting details. I'm still so excited I just forgot.
Base with Tech and carbon fiber dash, in black. As I'm going to be running at running the mile, add on aerodynamics weren't considered due to increased drag.

Congratulations! Now the last leg of the "wait" begins. Before you know it, you'll be picking it up.

I don't know if there is any actual truth to it, but when I got my RS I had read that Ford purposely doesn't do a first-come, first-served allocation process to help curb ADMs. The idea was if the dealer had no idea when the car would be built, then they couldn't sell an allocation as "the first one in the state or country".

I will say though, when I contacted Nick about one, he told me he had no allocation, but called me back maybe the next day and said if I wanted to put in an order I could and he would see if it would stick. I was several months behind the initial ordering process and I got my car probably 3 months before Matt Farah did, who was guaranteed by his dealer to "have the first one". I ended up keeping my mouth shut about it because I was catching some flak from early adopters.

After going through the process it seemed more to me by location than anything else. With the cars being built in Germany and shipped over, the east coast was definitely the first to get their cars. One guy I know flew out to Newark IIRC, to pick up his car and drove it back to Colorado. He was the first car within the state as far as I know and mine ended up getting to Nick's place probably a week before any Colorado cars hit lots.

I have no idea on the accuracy of this, but I am reasonably confident when it comes to ordering a new special Ford, you won't receive the car in the same order the car was submitted.

Doesn’t Ford prefer to build “retail” cars vs “dealer stock/inventory” cars?

I thought I had read that somewhere.

I am actually taking the build date with a grain of salt having been reading the wait times folks here have been dealing with.
If there is more on the progress of the build I will forward. Best of luck to all who are waiting.

That may have been true last year, but things seem to be moving along smoothly this year. Chances are, your car will be built during that build week.

A person of my era - can't beat Chuck Berry and Roy Orbison. Well, OK, maybe some old blues like Muddy Waters.
At 71, I'm still excited about cars and racing them. You are so right, we are indeed blessed we can have delivery times as a worry.
