That is gonna be one fun as hell ride!! Congrats!
Getting closer!
What's left now beside motor and transaxle into the car?

The transaxle......

RBT is having trouble producing new ZF transaxles. The guy that assembles the transaxles quit, then they re-hired him, then the production manager quit. I have now heard of people waiting 14 months to get their transaxle. So I have a line on a new Quaife ZF transaxle that we are trying to purchase. It is not my first choice, however if I don't use it I cannot say when my build will finish.

So after picking up the engine in Hollywood AR, I began my trip to Mt. Ulla NC to deliver the engine to Olthoff Racing for the final assembly.

Absolutely beautiful! The engine sounds like a beast! I would love to see it in person one day

so cool! Very Jealous
Thank you, it has been a life long dream.

Found out this afternoon that the car is up on the lift, I have a Quaife zf transaxle, and they have started the final assembly.

Pics to follow

BTW, anyone near Mount Ulla NC can go by and see the car's progress, just ask for Dennis there.

They are now working on my car! There is so much to do.

These pictures are a little small, but at least there is progress.

The 12 hours of Sebring was cancelled, so they stayed and kept working on my car ;)

The green is tape to protect the paint and parts during assembly

The door latches are now installed

I am glad that it is not my 250 lb frame climbing under the dash

The rear clam is now modified with gas struts to assist with opening.

The Quaife transaxle is there now, so it will be indexed and the throwout bearing clearance checked for the RST dual disc.

I will post more pics as I get them.

So awesome. Glad to see you got the transaxle sorted. The Quaife is a sequential, no?
It is an H-pattern as I believe the RBT ZF is also. There are sequential boxes available (Albins comes to mind) that can be made to work. But those are real racing transaxles and carry a 30% or more cost (this Quaife was $14K anyway).

I was told the RBT unit is superior to the Quaife, and parts for the Quaife can be hard to get. But RBT is a mess right now, so rather than wait.....

I have kept my order in for the RBT, and will most likely take delivery when it gets built. Investment and back-up. If you have a new RBT in the box you could get $20k for a $15k box right now.

Wow I wasn't aware Quaife made traditional 6-speeds. What model # if you don't mind me asking?

Also, do people ever put the Ricardo box from the 05-06 FGT in those? You still run into the parts availability issues, but I know there are still shops that service them and make replacement parts.

It is a 5 speed Quaife
ZF Transaxle 5-Speed H-Pattern Gearbox

The FGT is a little too long to fit into the GT40 body. Now I have seen in other GT40's it will fit, except the clam must be lifted off, it cannot swing open. For the cost of even a used Ricardo I would just buy an Albins. There are a few transaxles with the correct bellhousing offset dimension but overall they are too long.

The other issue is torque, some transaxles are rated at 400 lb-ft, and those will not hold up.

Right now, IMO the RBT or the Quaife are the only choices for a street car.
