No they are not direct, the air bags will need to be swapped for it to work correctly. Interesting that you found 2012 recaros and are swapping them into a 13 as the 2012s are much harder to find IMO

Do you have to change the air bag or just reprogram the computer? I swapped a set of GT500 seats into a C/S car and did not have to change the bags in that? I do not remember what year though.

all depends on the years, and no its not a reprogramming thing.

You don't need to swap the airbags themselves. You just need to swap the module on the bottom of the seats... at least that's what I had to do on my 07.

Might be different for that year but I doubt it. It's the passenger sensor that did it on mine.

They mixed and matched part numbers like crazy in the 10-14 years. Every year I think something is different; connectors, bags, etc. The weight sensor in the passenger seat is something to look into also. In some cases you have to swap the main control unit under the console. I eventually gave up and just live with the light (‘12 seats into my ‘10).

This is correct, you need to swap the passenger occupancy sensor, which is an air bladder under the seat foam. That bladder plugs into a module that’s riveted to the seat frame. You’ll also need to drill out the rivers and swap that module to your new seat as well.

FYI The weight sensor module under the seat is actually different between hard-top and convertible models. Ask me how I know. I'd love to hear Ford's explanation for that one.

Also, Ford doesn't list a part number for that module or the air bag that goes with it. The only way I know of to buy one is a used seat. Love to hear other options though.

I just did the swap, and only swapped the bladder. The weight sensors were not swapped. My stock convertible seats were not used for the swapped. I ended up buying a 2011 GT seat and used that bladder on the 2014 Mustang GT Recaro's. No issues or check engine lights.

And the plot thickens... that is surprising. Kinda illustrates the differing experiences between owners of year X swapping in seats from year Y and model Z. Regardless, patience is your friend and I hope one of the simpler fixes works for you.

Even with the idiot light I still wouldn't go back to my stock seats. I absolutely love the Recaros, even after gaining the Covid-30#'s.

another interesting thing to note that others may encounter, I bought some recaros out of a crashed 2012 GT500 from a popular online junkyard for my 2012 GT500, although all the part numbers for both seats were an exact match (bags, weight sensors, bladder, module etc.) I was still getting an air bag light, turns out the passenger seat module had a stored code (seat bags did not blow) for the accident which just had to be cleared out (in the occupancy module itself not srs) to fix the light.

I assume a dealership has to clear the code? Hopefully my local can do this, ‘cause that may be what I need. However they are not very, um, smart.

Yeah im sure a dealership could if you find a competent tech, luckily I work in a Benz dealership and one of the guys had a very nice snap on scanner that had access to the occupancy sensor.
