People die from disease. People also die from not having enough money, or being forced out of their dwellings because they cant afford rent. People are going to be seriously effected long after this burns through because the economy has been basically forced to shut down.

But we live in sue happy America. What happens when Grandma dies because she got the virus, after a stay at a hotel in Vegas, where the front desk guy was determined to have the virus and be the source of multiple cases? That's horrible PR and then some.

I'm financially good, so no worries here. I'm just sort of pissed all these cheap flights next week that I kind of shouldn't book, but really want to! $42 roundtrip to NYC! I'll go just for some pizza.

More oil sites are shutting down.

right now they are just doing maintenance on sites and shutting them down jsut to keep people working

If we are knocking down production so much I’m waiting to see what happens

Some serious tale of two halves in here. Doomsday economists and doomsday biologists.

Economy is definitely taking a dump thanks to this. But people are definitely dying. And as a son to two aging parents with poor health, if they contracted it they would most certainly be hospitalized/life threatened. I'm also watching my 7-8 month pregnant wife try to maintain some level of normalcy while I quarantine her. God forbid anything happen to her or our unborn son.

There's no right answer because those of us who are in the health/age bracket to survive it with minimal impact see it as little threat. But the older population, pregnant women, and sickly folks see it as death incarnate.

Ill counter argue that in the midst of all these announcements of lockdown, kids either being sent home from school or having spring break extended, people being told to work from home; this could also be leading to a worse social situation. Add in social media and the 24 hour news cycle, its taking a situation thats not great but manageable and turning into a panic.

We in the US have a population of 327 Million people. according to the CDC we have anywhere from 14,000-61,000 deaths from the flu each year. The spread from the CDC data is ridiculous how wide it is, but taking the 61K deaths per YEAR, thats .000184% of the US population.

People die from disease. People also die from not having enough money, or being forced out of their dwellings because they cant afford rent. People are going to be seriously effected long after this burns through because the economy has been basically forced to shut down.

Stop the virus, start the riots could be an after effect of all this. I see your point in that our officials needed to try something. And Id say it might work if we all held hands and sang kumbaya before all this. Truth is though, we didnt. Save a couple thousand more lives of a still low death rate and potentially screw over your society? Doesnt seem worth it.

Time will tell who among us are right. I still think this panic in the market and society is ****ing retarded.
If it stops at a death count anywhere near the flu it will be a massive win.

Looking at the numbers right now it doesn't seem worth it, but if it continues without any resistance it will crush nations.

It would only take 5% of the US to get infected to overrun all the hospitals in the country. I've heard anywhere from 17%-18.5% of symptoms are severe, which means you need to be on oxygen or you'll die. The death rate would skyrocket.

On a lighter note, if Remdesvir works and it can be ready for mass production in the next month, the markets are going to rally harder than you've ever seen.

Legit, I've been eyeing tickets back to Chicago. It's been ages since I've had a solid Chicago hot dog and fries from my hometown diner. An overnight back in the Windy City would be nice. ..... unless I get shot lmao

Let's hope that's the case, but that's part of my initial point. A panic, probably also likely in part to opportunistic stock shorting, has caused a drastic drop in the market.

I was just there 3 weeks ago, taking the L all over, out late, etc and never once felt unsafe. I know you're 99% sarcastic though.

Jesus, I made some long term moves in my portfolio just before the oil fight and covid-19 and I am absolutely getting the shit kicked out of me. Just have to hang onto the tigers tail now and hope for the best.

So someone help me out here on the power move by trump that I saw he’s doing

trump sees collapse, oil price drop.. instead of selling to market.. he buys up all this production, at a low ass price. Puts it into our reserves ( which have a shit ton of room for )

Uses a bit if we need to, but then once market comes back, he resells at a higher price

basically a **** you to Saudi and Russia

I said it before-when a vaccine has come out, and the ‘recover’ numbers start piling up, the market will come roaring back.

Those things are starting to slowly happen.

I took a nice nibble out of the bargain bin priced market today.

Lol more stimulus packages to help keep the economy from imploding. Too bad they’re probably only delaying the inevitable.

also will be great to hand out free $1000 stimulus package to American adults who will go turn around and buy drugs and stupid shit with that money.

thousands and thousands of businesses will close in CA now since everything is being quarantined. I assume many states are going to follow. The govt can pump in as much stimulus as they want, the market is not going to go to a bull market until this ****ing virus is cured.
