Do I have a Metco or LFP lower crank pulley kit?

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if it's possible to determine which kit I have? I bought it on FB. It's brand new and he said it's a Metco.

But there is nothing stating that it is 100% a metco lower. I've seen pictures where some will be stamped metco on the bracket. Maybe this is a older version?

I guess it really doesn't matter, just curious.

Also this is suppose to be a 4lb lower, which I found should be 8.60". I measured outside to outside and got around 8 3/4" or so. Just wanted to make sure it's the correct pulley.

Thanks.

Mine looks almost identical but with the engraved metco bracket.

I'll take a closer look at mine tomorrow after work and see if I notice any glaring differences.

For years and years Metco made LFP's lower (they still may). The instructions were even identical but a crappy photoshop of LFP was laid over the pictures.

The only thing different from the 2, I've purchased directly from METCO is the Y bracket isn't solid like the one you have pictured. I cant believe i dont have a pic? i normally document every mod i do to my car.

I had a gen 1 LFP kit and it was just like OP's shown, solid aluminum. No visible differences. I now have a gen 2 style LFP and the Y plate is not solid, it has webbing on it.

Not the best pic, but here it is.

Metco's early run Y bracket was a solid piece. They have since changed the design just like LFP has...

Hmm so my kit could be either one, but was told it's a Metco.

Side note:

Anyone regret running metco lower? I just don't want to go through all the work, then wish I kept my stock lower.

I'm running a 2.3 tvs on 21lbs and e85.

If it is the first run kit both are technically made by Metco. So yes it is a Metco. When Parts of my LFP lower broke I got new parts for it from... Metco.

Yes on a baby blower trying to make boost I would for sure run a lower. The right mix of upper/lower combo is better than a tiny upper to get you there.

Are you having trouble with beltslip, Brady.....or is this in an effort to eliminate belt dust? Seems like you've had this combo for several years now and I don't recall you talking about issues with excessive slip.

Just double check the belt alignment. Friend of mine put a lower on and it would strip a rib off the belt everytime. We figured out it was the lower pulley needing some shims. Of course he never bothered to put the shims on.

Mainly just belt dust. Otherwise, it works pretty good. But maybe I won't have to run everything pretty tight either.

Some say running a lower generates a little more torque? I wonder how much truth there is on that?

Yeah. Don't remember the brand, but it was a 4lb lower. One of those things that some need and others don't. But never hurts to check.

I had a similar problem when I installed a Nation's alternator. One of the alternator brackets needed a washer in between it and the alternator. The belt kept walking off the crank towards the motor.
